Trey Hendrickson And Cincinnati Bengals Agreed To Reworked Contract Pay Raise
After a contentious offseason and training camp hold-in the dust has finally settled in Cincinnati. It was a frustrating affair for both parties as they struggled to come to some sort of agreement. But on Monday, it was announced that Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to a reworked contract pay raise. With the new deal in place, Hendrickson is now one of the highest-paid edge rushers in the league.
And rightfully so, as he is a Pro Bowl pass rusher and the reigning NFL sack champion. NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that the reworked contract will provide him with a $14 million raise, bringing his 2025 salary to $30 million. Additionally, the revised deal also includes a $1 million incentive that he collects if he plays 60% of the plays and the Bengals make the playoffs, sources told Adam Schefter.
The offseason was a difficult period, to say the least, for Hendrickson. On two separate occasions either Hendrickson or the Bengals seriously considered trade options. He held out of training camp and then reported to camp and held a hold-in. Fortunately the parties got a deal done but it’s only for one year. That means Hendrickson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Part of the reason for the delayed contract was the matter of guaranteed money. He was offered a proposed deal that included $33 million in guarantees with no guarantees beyond 2025 and Hendrickson considered that untenable, ESPN Jeremy Fowler reported. However, he was willing to accept the pay raise that lifted his salary to $30 million. Which was a good thing for the Bengals as their struggling defense needs Hendrickson who was named to The Associated Press All-Pro team last season.

With the unpleasantness behind them, for now, Hendrickson is looking forward to going on what he hopes to be a Super Bowl championship run. He expressed his optimism after inking the deal on Monday stating:
“No. 9 is spinning it, so we’ve got a shot,” said Hendrickson of quarterback Joe Burrow.”
“It gives a lot of clarity to the 2025 defense,” Hendrickson said. “It gives us a couple of more good practices, and with a great offseason in the books, both personally and as a team, I feel like now we can go collectively play for the 2025 Bengals. And what’s best for the team is the best players playing in their relative positions.”
No matter how the season turns out we’ll have to see where he goes after it ends. Will he remain a Bengal or move on to another team? We don’t know but we wish a hearty congratulations to Trey for getting his 2025 season contract locked down!
