Trevor Lawrence Squashed Rumors About Leaving Jacksonville

Now that football season is officially over for the NFL the news cycle can get pretty lean. If nothing is really happening to report on then stories and speculations start to circulate. And apparently the Jaguars quarterback has been the subject of some speculation. Therefore, Trevor Lawrence felt it necessary that he squashed any rumors about leaving Jacksonville. It seemed unusual that the Jacksonville Jaguars would entertain ideas about getting rid of their franchise quarterback.

It was just last June that the Jaguars and Lawrence agreed to terms on a new contract. He joined the $50 million quarterback club with a five-year $275 million contract extension with the Jaguars. It includes $200 million in guaranteed money and $142 million fully guaranteed at signing. So why in the world would the team want to move on from him after making such a lucrative offer? According to Lawrence, the answer is they wouldn’t.

There had been some speculation that the Jaguars could potentially trade Lawrence to the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero confirmed to the Rich Eisen show that the rumor is “fake.” Pittsburgh “never” called Jacksonville about Lawrence. When Lawrence heard about the rumor he addressed it on the “Up And Adams” show yesterday. Adams brought up a good point about who Lawerence’s agent contacted about the trade rumor. The Jaguars are still in the process of hiring a general manager and have interviewed several potential candidates. In the end it was the head coach Liam Coen who confirmed the rumor was not coming from the team.

But Lawrence made it clear that he had no interest in leaving Jacksonville. He went on to say:

“That’s funny,” Lawrence said. “You know, I didn’t really see anything. My agent texted me and … said, ‘Hey, this is a report that is out there. I don’t think there’s anything to it, but I’ll check into it.’ So I saw it, and it’s funny though. Like, when he sent it to me, I was like, I wouldn’t say your heart drops, but you’re kind of like, what? And then I’m thinking about how I can’t even get – I have a no-trade clause in my contract, so I would know about it if I was getting traded, or if that was something that was gonna happen, you know, I’d have to be on board with it. Which I’m not.”

As I mentioned earlier, with the offseason being in full effect now, rumors are bound to swirl. So if you hear them don’t panic. They’re is always a good chance that they aren’t true.
