Trajan Langdon to Become Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations
Sometimes you just have to try something new. Detroit is making a change that they believe will have a significant effect on their franchise. Ushering in a new era and hopefully new fresh direction as well as perspective. So then, what is occurring? The latest development includes Trajan Langdon becoming the Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations.
This is a very important and crucial part of any NBA organization. The POBO is typically an highly-experienced and respected NBA veteran who fills the role of setting long-term direction for the franchise. He would also communicate and provide guidance to both upper management and the General Manager.
So far, the direction Detroit is heading in; is not good whatsoever. They have now survived through 5 losing seasons. And they are done with the experience. Making necessary changes is an absolute must.
Sports reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news about Langdon. He reveals,
“ESPN Sources: The Detroit Pistons have landed on Trajan Langdon to become the franchise’s new President of Basketball Operations and sides are beginning work on a deal for New Orleans’ GM to oversee organization.
Langdon has spent the past five years building a well-regarded Pelicans’ roster under President David Griffin. Langdon previously worked under Sean Marks with the Brooklyn Nets and played three seasons with the Cavs in the NBA.”

However, what more is there to know about Trajan’s qualifications? Why is he the right answer, or the correct guy for the job? As The Detroit News explains,
“For the past five seasons, Langdon has been the general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans and is set to move into the new role that the Pistons announced last month that they intended to incorporate into a revamped structure. The Pistons’ front office has been without a president of basketball operations since the team parted ways with Stan Van Gundy following the 2017-18 season. At the time, Van Gundy had a unique dual role of head coach and team president.
Langdon, 48, is expected to bring a new perspective and approach to the Pistons, who posted a franchise-worst 14-68 mark this past season, the worst in the NBA for the second straight season. In his five seasons as the Pelicans’ GM, Langdon established a reputation for his personnel moves and draft picks, while working with New Orleans team president David Griffin. Langdon also learned from his time with the Brooklyn Nets in his role as an assistant general manager under Sean Marks.
Of note, the Pelicans, who finished 49-33 this season — their most since notching 49 victories in 2008-09 — made strides this season. With Zion Williamson playing in a career-high 70 games this season, the Pelicans were on the upswing, and Langdon was instrumental in their turnaround.”
Sounds like a guy who has experience in helping a struggling team get back on track. And that is something that is certainly music to Detroit’s ears. And what they hope to accomplish in the near future.
