Topps Signs Exclusive Trading Card and Memorabilia Deal with JuJu Watkins
She is one of the top college stars in women’s basketball. An athlete that is setting and breaking records as well as helping to cause an upset or two. Well, now basketball fans will be able to collect some more choice collectibles. Topps announces that they have signed an exclusive trading card and memorabilia deal with USC’s JuJu Watkins. And if you’re wondering, yes, Watkins is the first women’s college athlete to sign such a deal.
Topps has had a LONG history and connection to sports. The company was founded in 1938 by four brothers, Abram, Ira, Philip, and Joseph Shorin. However, initially the brand was associated with other products, such as bubblegum. In time, things evolved, with Topps releasing their first baseball card set in 1952. In fact, this 1952 Topps set is considered by collectors as the first modern baseball card set due to the new full-color photos; facsimile autographs, and the inclusion of statistics and bios printed on the back. Which we all enjoy reading, studying and analyzing.
Nevertheless, for 73 years now, Topps has been a dominant force in the card market. Providing valuable exclusives in physical and digital form of countless exceptional athletes. And USC’s biggest star will now be able to add her name to this brand’s historic legacy.
Topps Signs Exclusive Trading Card and Memorabilia Deal with JuJu Watkins
Topps excitedly took to social media in order to announce their new deal with Watkins. Via the X platform they post a graphic of JuJu with the word, “SIGNED.” They also herald this brief and succinct message, “𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋: We’re excited to announce that we’ve signed an exclusive trading card & memorabilia deal with JuJu Watkins!”
Dan Hajducky of ESPN confirmed that this deal will not only be a college thing. But Watkins’ multi-year agreement will extend into her future professional career. Dan reveals,
“The deal includes signed Fanatics-branded memorabilia — including photos, basketballs and more — and autographed cards and game-worn memorabilia inserted into cards. Watkins has appeared previously in Bowman products, but as a result of the deal, she’ll be featured in a USC Trojans uniform in 2025 Bowman University Chrome Basketball cards, with a release date of April 3, 2025.
Per Fanatics, the deal ‘will continue into the next level of [Watkins’] career,’ which is notable as Panini currently holds the exclusive WNBA trading card license. The deal with Watkins continuing when she enters the WNBA means her autographed cards then will be unlicensed.”
Very interesting. Well, we are loving to see all of these deals happening for female athletes. It’s been a long time coming. Women’s sports has definitely taken a turn for greener pastures. Therefore, the future is bright and it will only get better. Congratulations again JuJu.
