Top Five Moments of USA In the 2024 Paris Olympics
Let me just start off by saying these are my opinions so don’t upset yourself if you don’t agree with me. It was difficult for me to narrow down the list. So here are my top five moments of the USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. As always with the Olympic games there are so many plot twists, feel good stories, and controversial happenings. And these games were no different. Algerian boxer Imane Khelif had to endure humiliating questions about her gender. But she had the last laugh as she came away with the gold medal in welterweight. The Chinese swimmers had to endure a cloud of suspicion over them due to the doping scandal that arose at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They were cleared of any wrongdoing but swimmers from other countries were still disgruntled.
And of course there was the whole judging fiasco involving the women’s artistic floor exercise. All five judges failed to mark the difficulty of Jordan Chiles’ score correctly. The one tenth of a point error is the difference between Chiles being in third or fifth place. Romanian gymnasts Ana Bârbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea were tied with a score of 13.700. Whereas Chiles’ score with the judges error was 13.666 but once the error was revised her score was 13.766 putting her ahead of Romania. The saga is still ongoing so who will end up with the bronze medal remains to be seen.
But enough of the bad news let’s get to the good stuff. In no particular order here are my top five moments:
Top Five Moments of USA In the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Stephen Nedoroscik was king of the pommel horse. By day he is a mild-mannered gymnast. But when he gets on the pommel horse he becomes Superman. He takes off his glasses and works the pommel horse like it’s no big deal. He was so fun to watch and he earned a bronze medal for his efforts. I really hope he returns for the 2028 games.
- Katy Ledecky is the goat of swimming right now and the most decorated female Olympic athlete. She killed it in both the 800m and 1500m freestyle events winning gold. No word yet if she plans on participating in the 2028 games.
- Grant Fisher was said to provide a spark to the other track and field athletes. He held his own in an event where the USA has had very little success. His winning bronze medals in both the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m was an inspiration to us all.
- The 4x400m relay teams. Both won gold however, the men had a fight on their hands just holding off Botswana. Whereas the women literally ran away with the race crossing the finish line about four seconds before everyone else. 2028, yes please, and thank you.
- Finally Steph Curry. That man went off in the semi-final and final games. His three-pointers in crunch time were ridiculous. This was his first Olympics and I would love to see him in 2028 but that might not happen. However, I’m glad I got to see him do his thing in Paris. It was magnifique!
The Olympics Are Over But The Memories Live On
I’m good with my choices but there are so many other events that could be mentioned. Such as the Women’s Team Pursuit winning gold in cycling. Kristen Faulkner, Chloe Dygert, Jennifer Valente and Lily Williams beat New Zealand for the gold. They are so fast that they can cover the length of a football field in about five seconds, wow! Faulkner is only the second woman to win gold in both road and track cycling in the same Olympics.
The games are over now so I’ll have to re-adjust to my normal routine. Are any of you having Olympics withdrawal issues? Well hang in there because the NFL regular season is only about three weeks away.
