Tom Brady’s Niece Maya Brady Drafted in AUSL Inaugural Draft

Tom changed the NFL forever winning seven championships. Now his niece is following in his pioneering footsteps. She is on the frontier lines of women’s softball and aims to help the newly established league build into a national brand. As a first major step, Tom Brady’s niece Maya Brady has been drafted in the AUSL’s Inaugural Draft.

Maya will now play for one of the four teams that will be a part of the women’s professional softball league. The Blaze, Talons, Volts and Bandits who will begin their seasons in June. Brady was drafted by the Talons in the fifth round and will no doubt be a great star for the team; as well as league to develop around. Maya was twice named a first-team All-American and the Pac-12 Player of the Year.

Brady, 23, who is a left-handed slugger who also plays outfield; expressed her excitement about this new chapter, saying,

“I am thrilled to join Athletes Unlimited and compete at the highest level. This league represents everything I love about softball—passion, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. I can’t wait to be a part of it.“

Maya Brady definitely possesses the qualities and talent to be a superstar of the AUSL. As a freshman in 2020, she practically tore the cover off the ball. Hitting .356, slugging .699; and leading the team with seven home-runs.

She also had seven multi-hit games (out of 26 games played); scoring 22 runs, and drawing 11 walks. The next year, as a pandemic-induced redshirt, she was named: Softball America’s Freshman of the Year; First Team All- Pac-12, Pac-12 All-Freshman, and NFCA First Team All-American.

Furthermore, in 2023 Maya produced her best season yet. Earning the Pac-12 Player of the Year award and being named a finalist for the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. Maya broke a 24-year-old UCLA record with 11 consecutive base hits; moving up to third on UCLA’s career slugging percentage list (.733). She also is just the 7th Bruin in program history to have five multi-homer games in a career. And her astonishing .456 batting average solidified her as the 2023 Pac-12 Batting Champion.

Wow. Her accomplishments and performance speak for themselves. We are excited for the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League and we can’t wait to see Brady in action with her team, the Talons.
