Tom Brady And Richard Seymour Are About To Partner Up

Tom Brady And Richard Seymour Are About To Partner Up

It’s been about a year and a half since we heard about Tom Brady becoming a part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the partnership deal has been bogged down for various reasons. But now it appears that Tom Brady and Richard Seymour are about to partner up. According to Pro Football Talk, Hall of Fame defensive lineman Richard Seymour is close to finalizing a deal to become an owner and limited partner of the Raiders.

The recruiting of Seymour is the result of the groundwork laid by Al Davis, founder of the Raiders and father of current owner Mark Davis. Pro Football Talk pointed out the legacy of Al Davis’ commitment to equality and diversity. From hiring Tom Flores and Art Shell to coach the team to making Amy Trask the team’s president. It’s Mark Davis who initiated the effort to involve Seymour in ownership.

But what does this have to do with Brady and Seymour partnering? Well, initially, Mark Davis apparently proposed giving Brady a “steep discount over market value.” And that was not something  of which other owners were in favor. Enter Richard Seymour and his partners. The combination of Seymour and Brady is expected to resolve most of the concerns about Brady’s bid. Together (and with their own partners) they would own 10.4 percent of the team, as reported by Pro Football Talk. This new bid has to be presented to ownership, and 24 votes are required for approval of the transaction.

What is also interesting about Seymour’s involvement is that he finished his NFL career with the Raiders. Seymour also started his career with the New England Patriots and played there for eight seasons.

The 44-year-old Seymour won three Super Bowls, and was traded to the then-Oakland Raiders in 2009. He played 53 games for Oakland and made two Pro Bowls with the Raiders before retiring following the 2012 season. The former No. 6 overall pick out of Georgia was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
