Titans Get First Win Seahawks Handed First Loss
Another Monday, another NFL doubleheader. The Titans and Dolphins got off to a slow start whereas the Seahawks and Lions started like they were shot out of a canon. But in the end, the Tennessee Titans got their first win of the season and the Seattle Seahawks were handed their first loss. It was a struggle for the Dolphins offense to get going but Seattle and Detroit didn’t have that issue at all.
Both the Titans and Dolphins had turnovers in the first quarter. Titans QB Will Levis threw a pass intended for Deandre Hopkins and was intercepted. It looked like the ball may have been tipped but the Dolphins got the ball. However, the Dolphins gave it right back a couple of plays later. Dolphins QB Tyler Huntley threw a lateral pass to Tyreek Hill that he dropped and it was ruled a fumble against Huntley. The Titans took possession but couldn’t capitalize on the turnover.
Will Levis had to sit out the rest of the rest of the game.He hurt his right shoulder diving for a first down in the first quarter. He was replaced by Mason Rudolph. The score was 9-3 at halftime and Miami fans booed their Dolphins off the field. They are clearly missing Tua Tagvailoa’s accuracy and anticipation in operating the offense.
Nothing improved for the Dolphins’ offense in the second half. Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle were held in check with 4 receptions each and 23 and 36 yards respectively. Miami finally scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter but the final score was 31-12 giving the Titans their first victory.

Seattle visited the Detroit Lions and both teams started their first possessions with punts. But the action heated up after that. On Detroit’s second drive they started stringing plays together. At one point it looked like QB Jared Goff was about to be sacked. But he did a little spin and threw the ball to Jameson Williams for a first down. Jahmyr Gibbs found a nice hole and took the ball down to the five yard line. RB David Montgomery punched it in for the touchdown. It was a 93 yard drive.
Seattle was moving the ball well when Geno Smith connected with D K Metcalf. He fought for extra yards and had the ball punched out of his hands. Detroit recovered the ball and returned it to the Seahawks’ 13 yard line. And this time Jahmyr Gibbs ran the ball into the end zone for the touchdown.
Seattle put together an impressive drive to answer the Detroit Lions score. They went 70 yards in 10 plays and Kenneth Walker III ran it into the end zone from 1 yard out for the touchdown. Detroit said okay and went right down the field and scored another touchdown. The Seahawks had about 20 seconds left in the half. They got close enough to try a 62-yard field goal but it was no good. The half time score was 7-21.
The second half of the game was even more action-packed as the two teams kept trading scores. Detroit pulled off a beauty of a trick play when Jared Goff pitched the ball to Amon-Ra St. Brown who then threw the ball to Goff in the end zone for the touchdown.
Seattle And Detroit Put On Offensive Show
Geno Smith was often under pressure but somehow managed to escape the rush. Both quarterbacks were making impressive throws all night long. And the receivers on both sides were making incredible toe-tapping catches. Part of the problem for the Seahawks were inexcusable offensive holding penalties racked up by both Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
In the end Seattle couldn’t overcome their early 14 point deficit although they put up a hard fight. Detroit broke their six game losing streak against Seattle scoring touchdowns in every quarter of the 42-29 win. Jared Goff did his best Superman impression, not throwing one incomplete pass during the game. He was 18 of 18 for 292 yards, two touchdowns plus the touchdown he caught on the trick play.
It was a pretty great game that made up for the lackluster contest between the Titans and Dolphins.
