The Wait Is Over – CeeDee Lamb Gets New Extension

It had to be frustrating seeing other wide receivers get paid this offseason. So frustrating that he decided to hold out from offseason activities and training camp. Well now the wait is over as Cee Dee Lamb finally gets a new extension. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t in any hurry to get the star wide receiver signed to a new deal. In fact there wasn’t much urgency in Dallas this offseason to make any transactions at all. Despite Jones saying they “were going all in.”

But that doesn’t matter now as it has been reported that an extension has been given to Lamb. Here is the scoop from Adam Schefter:

“ESPN Sources: Cowboys and All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb reached agreement today on a record four-year, $136 million deal that now makes him the second highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. The deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver. Tory Dandy of CAA negotiated the deal with the Cowboys.”
The deal makes him the second highest-paid wide receiver at $34 million annually, behind Justin Jefferson who will earn $35 million per year. Lamb had always let it be known that he wanted to stay with the Cowboys and for a very long time. His teammates never thought that his wish wouldn’t be granted. As noted by team staff writer Patrik Walker, “Following comments by Dak Prescott that told Lamb “you’ll get your money”, Micah Parsons offered up a guarantee that the All-Pro wideout would “be suiting up for the Dallas Cowboys” in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.” And their assessments were correct.

The Wait Is Over – CeeDee Lamb Gets New Extension

Lamb was drafted with the 17th overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s done nothing but produce since being drafted. And is a guaranteed weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott. In his four short years, Lamb has amassed 395 receptions for 5,145 yards and 32 receiving touchdowns. Last season was his best one yet with 135 catches, 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Here are a couple of other fun facts:
His 10 catches for more than 150 yards in three consecutive games set a new NFL record for most receptions and yards ever in a three-game stretch, while his 13-catch, 227-yard clinic in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions broke a single-game receptions and receiving yards record long held by Hall of Fame playmaker and fellow 88 Club resident Michael Irvin.
It’s a good thing they got the deal done because you never want to lose a guy like that. Plus the Cowboys will need Lamb if they hope to repeat as NFC East champions.
