The NFL Is Bringing Together the Old and the Young

If you have NFL+ you definitely need to check out Generations. With this series the NFL is bringing together the old and the young. Legendary players from prior football generations shoot the breeze with some of today’s best active players. It’s a chance for the youngsters to talk to their favorite former players and compare notes.

My favorite episode so far is the video with Vince Wilfork and Christian Wilkins. But that’s because I was a fan of big Vince the moment he came into the NFL. He always looked like a big, friendly, teddy bear. But on the field he turned into a mean old grizzly bear. To be such a big man he could move fast. The way he would get to a quarterback and throw him down like a rag doll was always impressive.

Off the field, Vince and his lovely wife Bianca, would host charity events and were active in their community. The former New England Patriot and Houston Texan was a favorite among his teammates. He entertained and enlightened his fellow players with charm and humor that was irresistible.

Christian Wilkins disclosed to Vince that he was a Massachusetts kid and grew up as a fan of his. Thanks to Vince he developed a love of football and a respect for Vince’s game. Being the humble person he is, Vince was so happy to know that the younger generation appreciated how he played the game. According to Christian, a lot of people want to be a D Tackle because Vince made it a sexy position.

The segment between Vince and Christian featured clips of some of the awesome plays made by them.  Like his predecessor, Christian is also a quick, big man. I particularly enjoyed seeing the clip of the infamous “Butt Fumble” of Mark Sanchez. Vince Wilfork literally threw offensive lineman Brandon Moore into Mark Sanchez. It was a funny play but a demonstration of how powerful Vince was.

Generations is a good way to learn about former players and how they are both similar and different to the new players. It also fosters respect for the various positions that are played and how they are essential to the game. Other segments feature Mike Quick and A.J. Brown, LaDainlan Tomlinson and Austin Ekeler, and Terrell Sugs and Maxx Crosby. NFL Sportsfeens I highly recommend this series.
