Texas Rangers Drop Under .500 for First Time Under Manager Bruce Bochy

When you witness a baseball team get on a roll so effortlessly, it feels slightly off to see them take a tad bit of a dip. However, in Major League Baseball that is just life. All teams eventually seem to trend downward for a moment. For instance, the Texas Rangers have dropped under .500 for the first time under manager Bruce Bochy.

Nevertheless, with several months of baseball to play; this isn’t a reason to completely panic. The Bruce Bochy era in Texas has been one for the books. He took a team that was 68-94 in 2022, turned them into a 90-72 team in 2023. And oh yeah… won that little thing called a World Series. The first one in the Rangers franchise history.

So then, if anyone ever needed to have a little faith in someone. Bruce Bochy would definitely be the one to give a little string to in order to figure things out. Moreover, Bochy’s record as a manager is nothing short of stellar.

He’s won multiple championships with different teams and organizations. Three with the Giants alone. And even took the San Diego Padres to the big show in 1998. So then, his managerial pedigree shows that Bruce has a knack for winning and the Rangers still very well could get right back on track.

Nonetheless, speaking of championships. Have you ever wondered how many baseball teams have been able to repeat? Meaning that they have won 2 championships or more in row.

Come on, give a guess… what do you think? 5 teams? 8? Maybe 10?

Well, if you’re actually thinking more than 10 you would be right. However, if you look at history most of the teams to do it; did it before 1940. According to Just Baseball:

“Throughout the course of MLB history there have only been 14 teams that have won two or more World Series championships in a row. Of those 14, six of them were New York Yankees teams and seven of those repeat championships happened before World War II. In the past 45 years, there has only been two such instances.”

Very interesting. So could the Rangers join the above the list? Well, there would have to be some adjustments for sure.

Currently, the Rangers are 24-25 as this second quarter of the season now presses on. In the standings, Texas is still in the hunt for a wildcard position (with 5 teams ahead). However, it is of note… the Seattle Mariners have the top division spot, but are only THREE games ahead of the Rangers. Therefore, despite following under .500, Texas is not out of the running at all. With tons of season left, they can get on roll and possibly even retake the division.
