Saying goodbye is never easy, and there is not one single Cleveland fan right now that is finding it simple to say so long to Tito. However, the time is here and what’s hard must be done. No matter what Ohio does, it doesn’t change the fact that Terry Francona retires as Cleveland Guardians manager with a well deserved ovation from Progressive Field!
It is a moment that the Guardians will not soon forget. Terry’s final game is one for the books. Not only does the team take down fellow Ohio rival, the Cincinnati Reds and thus hangs onto the “Ohio Cup;” bragging rights and all. But the “W” is another win in Francona’s score card, he’s going out on top, winning another ball game.
Nevertheless, the ending is bittersweet, especially for the players. As David Fry said this week, “We have such a good clubhouse who fights to the end.” This fighting spirit and positive franchise atmosphere is no doubt the signs and results of a great leader, a great manager. And the teams reactions tonight, only highlight this fact even more.
As the stadium rocked tonight with thunderous applause for Terry Francona. Guardians team members made sure that the humble manager could fully soak in the moment. They kept Francona on the field by blocking his path to the dugout and giving him plenty of hugs. Beautiful.

Yes thank you Tito! Francona enjoyed 11 wonderful seasons in Cleveland. He accomplishes:

- 4 division titles
- 3 postseason series victories
- 1 American League Pennant
Francona… what a class act and heck of a manager. While we are sure he wanted with all his heart to bring a championship back to Cleveland; one cannot overlook all of his efforts and hard work. He brought the respect back to Cleveland and should be commended. Thanks for the fun times, and great games Tito. Enjoy retirement!
