Teddy Bridgewater Returning To The NFL; Jakorian Bennett Headed To The Eagles
Transactions and acquisitions are non-stop in the world of sports and the NFL is not exempt from this fact. There were more comings and goings by different players as reported on yesterday. For instance Teddy Bridgewater is returning to the NFL; meanwhile Jakorian Bennett is headed to the Eagles. Bridgewater had joined the Detroit Lions late last season after coaching Miami Northwestern High School to a state title. Whereas Bennett was acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for Thomas Booker.
In July, Bridgewater was suspended from the high school, being accused of providing “improper benefits” to the players. The accusation may have stemmed from a Facebook post made by Bridgewater last month. It drew the attention of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). In the post he detailed what he was doing to assist the team stating in part:
“From daily uber rides, to feeding the boys MLK ($1500 a week) every morning following our morning training sessions to feeding the boys catered pasta during the season, to pride sets, to training camp – I cover ALL THE EXPENSES.”
However, Bridgewater says “it’s impossible to suspend someone who doesn’t work for you and he’s not going anywhere. Nevertheless, he is signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after visiting and passing a physical on Tuesday. He’ll have the opportunity to help the Bucs win their fifth consecutive NFC South title. Head coach Todd Bowles looks forward to benefiting from Bridgewater’s experience saying:
“He’d bring us a wealth of experience at that spot,” coach Todd Bowles said after Tuesday’s practice when asked about the then-potential signing. “Obviously, we don’t have it. Kyle’s been here a few years, but he hasn’t really played. Obviously, we have a new guy (Bazelak) just coming in. We need the extra arm, we think we need some experience in that room, and the more experience the better.”
Teddy Bridgewater Returning To The NFL; Jakorian Bennett Headed To The Eagles
As reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia is acquiring cornerback Jakorian Bennett in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker. Bennett is the more experienced of the two. He has played in 24 games for Las Vegas with 11 starts, including seven last season, and has 58 career tackles and 11 passes defensed. Whereas Booker appeared in all 17 regular-season games (one start) for the Eagles last season. And he contributed 18 tackles and a sack.
Although it may not be a riveting transaction both teams are benefitted. They can each shore up their defenses with these players by putting together comprehensive rosters for the upcoming season. Best wishes to all the players in their new homes.
