Team USA Women’s Hockey Defeats Canada Winning Gold in Overtime at 2026 Olympics

It at first started to look dire for the United States. Canada had scored and led 1-0 as time seemed to dwindle down faster than sand in a glass timer. But Team USA never gave up, remained calm and stay focused. Due to their efforts Team USA Women’s Hockey defeats Canada winning gold in overtime at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics.

Over nearly three decades, the Canada-USA rivalry has been among the best in sport, with the two sides in a near-constant battle for women’s hockey supremacy. The cross-border rivals have combined to win every Olympic gold medal. More recently, the U.S. has won world championships in 2023 and 2025, while Canada won in 2024.

As one can imagine, the rivalry remained heated, as Canada took the lead and played great defense. Holding off the United States with just 124 seconds left to go in regulation.

However, Team USA picked up the pace with time running out, doing their best to cycle the puck, create shooting situations and their efforts paid off. With 2 minutes and 4 seconds left in the third period a hero emerged. Hilary Knight ties up the game 1-1 which leads to overtime! Knight scored her 15th career goal (33rd career point) in dramatic fashion, late in the gold-medal game of the Milan Cortina Olympics. Hilary Knight scored the equalizer in the 58th minute off the assist from Laila Edwards.

Furthermore, during this Olympics run, Hilary Knight has now become the all-time scorer in U.S. women’s Olympic hockey. Knight won silver Olympic medals with the U.S. in 2010, 2014 and 2022 and a gold, from 2018, while playing Canada in every gold-medal game.

Nevertheless, what about Thursday’s gold medal game in overtime? Well, one minute ticks by. Two minutes pass. Then three. Finally, in minute four we had action and the winning shot is made! Megan Keller scored just over four minutes into overtime to give the U.S. an imperfect but resilient 2-1 victory in Thursday’s gold-medal match at the Milano-Cortina Olympics.

Yet, it should not surprise anyone that Team USA is golden. The women’s hockey team has been absolutely DOMINANT during the Winter Games. The U.S. basically flattened everything in its path like a pancake before the gold-medal match; outscoring their first six opponents 31-1 and not giving up a goal for 16 consecutive periods. Truly this golden victory is deserved and was earned. Congratulations to these ladies of Team USA.
