Team USA Golden At 2025 World Figure Skating Championships
The prestigious figure skating event took place this weekend in Boston, MA from March 26-30, 2025. There are four categories in which the figure skaters compete: Men’s, Women’s, Pairs, and Ice Dance. In three of the four categories team USA was golden at the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships. Ilia Malinin won gold for the Men, Alysa Liu took gold for the Women and Madison Chock and Evan Bates earned gold in Ice Dance. For the Pairs competition it was Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara taking home the gold for their country.
Ilia Malinin was looking to repeat his golden success from the last World Championships and he did so in resounding fashion. Malinin, also known as the “Quadgod” because he liberally sprinkles quadruple jumps throughout his routines, landed six of them this time around. It’s the first time a skater landed all six types of quads in one program without having any called for an under-rotation. He totaled 318.56 points between Thursday’s short program and his free skate Saturday, running his win streak to nine events dating to December 2023.
This event proved to be electric for Alysa Liu winning gold in the Women’s category. Her stellar free skate secured the first world title for a U.S. women’s singles skater since 2006. Topping the podium was even sweeter for Liu after returning from a brief hiatus from the sport. She had become the youngest U.S. women’s champion ever at 13, then she won the national title again at 14.
However, on April 9, 2022, Alysa Liu announced her retirement from figure skating at the tender age of 16. But she has found joy in her return to figure skating after a two-year retirement. And now she has the World Title in figure skating!

And of course we have to give all the flowers to Madison Chock and Evan Bates. They were eagerly cheered on by their moms as they skated their way to gold. While Malinin was working on his repeat Chock and Bates secured their their three-peat in Ice Dance. According to NBC Olympics, “Madison Chock and Evan Bates have now won the ice dance world title in every season of this Olympic cycle.” This is the first time in almost 30 years that a dance team has won three-in-a-row.
U.S. Figure Skating’s gold medalists from Worlds will join the TODAY Show Monday morning on NBC. But for now, congratulations to all the gold medal winners helping the U.S.A. to win three of the four events at figure skating worlds for the first time in history. This figure skating season concludes with World Team Trophy from April 17-19, which will be live on Peacock.
