Team USA Breaks World Record in Mixed 4×400 at 2024 Paris Olympics
All they had to do was qualify. But instead this squad decided to do three things at once. Dominate, qualify and break a record! On day one of track and field Team USA Breaks the World Record in the Mixed 4×400 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ran by Vernon Norwood (LSU), Shamier Little (Texas A&M), Bryce Deadmon (Texas A&M), and Kaylyn Brown (Arkansas).
If you have never heard of this race before… welcome… it will soon be one of your favorites. Each team comprises of two women as well as two men. And like any relay race it takes some strategy to know who should start, do the second or third leg and anchor. But for the USA they had the correct powerhouse formula.
ESPN national reporter, Coley Harvey, had this to say about the exciting heat. He recaps it by stating,
Team USA’s mixed 4×400-meter relay wins its first-round relay in convincing fashion. They set a world record 3:07.41 … It was won on the second and third legs, when Shamier Little made up ground lost on the opening leg, and Bryce Deadmon pushed the lead further. Wow.
However, we would like to add onto Harvey’s sentiments. The anchor leg also did WORK. Anchored by Charlotte native Kaylen Brown, the final runner of Team USA came blazing home to the finish line with tremendous speed. Closing the historic race with a 49.4-second leg.
At one point, the rest of the runners could not even be seen in frame. Kaylen Brown became like the Katie Ledecky on land. Leaving ALL her competition in the dust.

Also, in case you are wondering, Team USA beat and shattered not only the World Record but the Olympic Record as well. The previous OR for this event was 3:09:87. And the previous WR had been 3:08:80.
So then, with their 3:07:41 time today they broke the World Record by more than a second. And the Olympic Record by more than two seconds. Plus, with this event being so “young” we most likely will see these records continue to be demolished for quite some time.
However, what a great start to track and field! Team USA has had a lot of work to do to get back to being the best in the world. Moreover, if this is a sign for the rest of the Summer Games, we should all expect to see quite a few gold medal ceremonies.
