Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver Mike Evans To Miss Most Of 2025 Season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver Mike Evans To Miss Most Of 2025 Season

After a tough loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football there was more bad news for the team. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans will miss most of the rest of the 2025 season. Head coach Todd Bowles announced Monday night, “He’ll be out mostly toward the end of the year. We’ll see what happens.” That’s not a lot of information to go on, but clearly that’s terrible news for both Evans and the Buccaneers.

Evans had already missed three games due to a hamstring injury and had just made his return Monday night. But in the second quarter of the game, he sustained a broken clavicle. He could potentially miss the rest of the regular season. The timeline for a fully healed collarbone varies from person to person. If it’s a clean fracture, where the bone ends are held in place and still fit together like two puzzle pieces,  a faster recovery can be expected – sometimes as little as 4-6 weeks.  But the more severe a collarbone fracture is, the longer it will take to heal.

And having to miss multiple games will surely jeopardize his receiving yards record. He is the first player in NFL history to open his career with 11 straight 1,000-yard seasons – no one else has more than six in a row. Quarterback, Baker Mayfield, expressed his concern for the 12-year veteran. He said:

“I mean, obviously, for the team, it’s not great,” said Mayfield after the game. “But, for him, I hate it. From seeing him work each day in-person, whether he’s healthy or hurt, just how he attacks each day, it just sucks. You never like to see that, whether it’s a teammate or not, but especially when it’s Mike. Unfortunate, but guys [will be] trying to step up and play for him.”

But he still believes that Evans can continue to contribute to the team. Mayfield went on to say:

“I mean, it’s like I said, very unfortunate, but Mike’s a professional,” said Mayfield. “He’ll handle it the best way he possibly can. Being injured and not being able to play is one thing, but I know Mike will be there and support the guys no matter what. And that’s really just a testament to who he is, and that’s not easy to do. Sometimes it’s hard to stand around and watch when you know you want to be out there and contribute, but Mike will help our guys out in any way he can.”

The Buccaneers have playoff aspirations and would love for Evans to be back in time to help them in the postseason. And on a positive note, shoutout to the Buccaneers fans. The Mike Evans Family Foundation put out the following post:

“We cannot thanks Bucs fans enough for their generosity in the wake of Mike’s injury. In just over 12 hours, Bucs Nation has donated over $2,000 to MEFF.”

That’s fantastic and we wish Mike a healthy and speedy recovery!
