Super Wild Card Weekend – Texans Blow Out the Browns

It’s that time again and we are ready for it. On Super Wild Card Weekend – the Texans Blow Out the Browns. It felt like the game could have gone either way. Neither team could move the ball on offense. Both defenses were shutting down passing plays and stuffing runs. Finally in the first quarter the Texans had good field position. They got to the 2 yard line but couldn’t get in the end zone. They put the first points of the game on the board with a 21 yard field goal.

It must have sparked the Browns. Joe Flacco immediately found David Njoku for a 45 yard pass to the Cleveland 30 yard line. A few more passes and they were at the 1 yard line. Kareem Hunt dived over the pile to score the touchdown.

Now it was the Texans turn to be motivated. A tough 29 yard run by Devin Singletary was followed by a big 27 yard pass from C.J. Stroud to John Metchie. The drive was capped with a 15 yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins. In just four plays the Texans were back on top 7-10.

This game went from a defensive brawl to an offensive explosion in about five minutes. The first quarter ended with Flacco throwing a 47 yard bomb to Harrison Bryant. Their drive also ended with a touchdown. But after that the Texans responded with more scores and took the 24-14 lead at halftime.

When the game resumed the Texans continued to thrash the Browns. The defense intercepted Joe Flacco on back-to-back possessions. First Steven Nelson intercepted the ball and took it back 82 yards for the touchdown. Next Derek Christian Harris picked off a pass and took it 36 yards  for the touchdown.

The Browns weren’t able to score anymore and the Texans cruised to a 14-45 victory. Head coach DeMeco Ryans and QB C.J. Stroud have led their team to their first playoff victory. As Jason McCourty said, “C.J. Stroud looked like a 15 year veteran playing.” He was definitely poised and knew just where to go with the football. It was exciting watching the rookie and can’t wait to see what he does next week.

As for the Browns, they had a really good season and hopefully they will continue it next season. I don’t know what they plan on doing about the QB position but it seems like Flacco still has plenty of gas left in the tank. Next up is the freezing cold game with the Dolphins at Chiefs.
