Suni Lee Wins Bronze on Uneven Bars Final-Third Medal in Paris
She is three for three! In every single event she has competed in so far in Paris; she has walked away with a piece of hardware. And now Suni Lee wins a bronze in the Uneven Bars Final which is her third medal of the 2024 Olympic Games.
Lee went into the bars event with a slight challenge… time. She would have a lot it. And sitting around is a mental contest of its very own.
For instance, in competition it can be hard on athletes when you are selected to go first. In this position you set the bar, mark or pace. And you must then wait out every other competitor to see where you will finally land. By the way… in case you did not know, in final events the order is determined by random draw. A gymnast’s qualifying scores literally have no effect on the order of competitors.
However, for the Uneven Bars Final Suni Lee had the opposite issue. She would close out the competition. Performing 8th. Therefore, staying warm, loose, focused and calm would prove to be an asset.
And when it came time for her routine, this woman was all STEEL. Feet together, handstands on high bar locked and loaded; Her flips were enormous and energetic, releases never look out of control; connections between moves were just about seamless and the transfer between high and low bar; looked like just another day in the park for Lee. Her dismount has the slightest hop. A good routine.
In the end Suni comes in third behind Kaylia Nemour of Algeria. Gold medalist Nemour scored a 15.700, and Qiyuan Qiu of China who won silver, scored 15.500. Lee earns a 14.800 from the judges.

After her medal winning performance on bars, Suni discussed why this bronze medal means so much to her. And how her presence at the Summer Games has led to so much health awareness (Lee started training for Paris in January 2024 after being away from gymnastics due to an undisclosed kidney condition); as well as sincere fan appreciation. Suni Lee reveals,
“[This bronze medal is] so much more meaningful. I told myself I was coming back to redeem myself on bars. And that’s what I did this time.
The past couple of days I’ve been flooded with messages from people saying they’ve had chronic illnesses and the things they’ve had to deal with. So it’s a really good feeling, knowing that I can inspire others, especially because I’ve spent a lot of months in my lowest.”
Yes, Lee is certainly an inspiration. To fight hard no matter what and be determined to reach any and all goals. Suni wanted to get back to the Olympics and she brought her objective to fruition. In Paris, she now possesses three medals (1 gold and 2 bronze); with a chance to tack on Monday, August 5 as she competes for the Balance Beam Final.
