Stephen Vogt Cleveland Guardians New Manager- Changes For the Land!
The search is over. With big, big shoes to fill, the Cleveland franchise feels like they have their guy that will lead them in this post-Tito world. Who’s the man of the hour? Stephen Vogt Cleveland Guardians new manager who is primed and ready to take on next season in 2024!
Nonetheless, no matter who was chosen it was going to be an extremely difficult choice. Literally, how do you replace a guy like freaking Terry Francona? A manager with multiple World Series championships under his belt, along with numerous pennants with more than one team.
Yet, the Guardians already knew Tito is not replaceable. You can’t replace a legend. You can only attempt to find the next “right guy” for the job.
Tito is not only a skillful former manager. All guys loved playing for him. The Guardians seem to be going this route again with Stephen Vogt; a nice gent who is a fresh breath of air in the clubhouse/dugout.
Furthermore, the Guardians already possess tons of confidence in their choice. In a short announcement via social media, the Guardians state,
“We believe in Stephen Vogt. We have hired Stephen Vogt as the 45th manager in franchise history. The character references say everything about who Stephen Vogt is, but here’s a little bit more about our new skipper.
Stephen Vogt, was born November 1, 1984 in Visalia, California. Drafted by the Rays in the 12th round of the 2007 MLB draft. He is a two time All Star (2015, 2016); and was hired as the Seattle Mariners bullpen and quality control coach in 2023.”
Stephen Vogt Cleveland Guardians New Manager- Changes For the Land!
Now if you’re looking at the Guardians’ statement a little funny; you’re not alone. Many instantly will pick up on the fact that currently, Stephen Vogt possesses zero manager experience. For a team that wants to make it back to the postseason; this could be tricky.
However, Rob Thompson in his rookie season as a manager went to the World Series; and almost made it again the following year. Moreover, Vogt is a former MLB catcher, and history shows that several catchers go on to be legendary managers. Guys such as Yogi Berra, Joe Torre and of course the modern day King, Bruce Bochy.
Therefore, while Stephen’s on the job training might seem scary to some fans, he could prove to be special. Especially, since he’s got great work ethic. Dallas Braden of Draft Kings’ Baseball Is Dead Podcast, shares what Vogt was like on his LAST day as a MLB player. Dallas reveals,
“In a manager you hope to find someone who can set the tone & set a daily example for everyone else in the room. Someone who can communicate & someone who understands what kind of commitment it takes to get better over 162+. This is a great time to remind Cleveland Guardians fans just what kind of human being you have leading the way. This was the last day of Stephen Vogt’s playing career. He spent it [still working/practicing] blocking baseballs before the game. I think the Guards have hit a homer here… just like Vogt did in the final AB of his career!”
Great story. Nice example. Leadership is everything and Vogt ranks high in that regard.
