Stephen Curry Produced-GOAT Surpasses $100 Million Box Office Mark and Takes Top Spot

Number 30 is used to winning, especially after four championships with Golden State. Which has led to him being included in strongly debated top ten players discussions. However, now we may need to start putting him in conversations when it comes to his impact on the movie industry. This week, the Stephen Curry produced film GOAT surpassed the $100 Million box office mark while toppling Wuthering Heights.

Wuthering Heights has had romantics and Booktok in a chokehold for a couple weeks. However, the cinematic success was just dethroned. Taking its place is a animated movie which proves that family films can still be major box office draw. According to Brian Welk of IndieWire,

“Sony Pictures Animation’s basketball film crossed $100 million globally in its second weekend and moved up to No. 1 domestic for the weekend, bolstering a good stretch of PG movies. “GOAT” was already in good shape, as its opening weekend of $35.1 million in North America was the biggest for an original animated film since “Elemental” in summer 2023.

[Furthermore], it managed to narrowly climb to No. 1 at the domestic box office this weekend ($17 million) after falling behind “Wuthering Heights” in its first weekend. The film had a drop of only 38 percent week-over-week.”

Curry’s hit animated film follows the story of a small goat (Will Harris/voiced by Caleb McLaughlin) with big dreams. Will gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball. Which is a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world.

Nonetheless, this  movie is being met with great enthusiasm and great reviews (82% Rotten Tomatoes/93% Fandango). And this excitement is showing up in the numbers. GOAT is estimated to have been created with a budget between $80-$90 million. So far it has made $105 Million worldwide in the span of just two weeks.

Around 58% of this total is domestic. Therefore, this film is also enjoying a strong showing in the international market. Pulling in 42% of the box office take, or $44 million.

Steph’s family film still has much time left at the box office. And so far it is outperforming industry projections and predictions. Therefore, congratulations again to Steph Curry on being a winner. This project is hitting nothing but net.
