Steph Curry Carried USA To The Olympics Basketball Final
They have been referred to as the dream team, but this game was a nightmare until the end. But Steph Curry put on his superman cape and carried the USA to the Olympics basketball final. I thought Serbia might finally be a real challenge; but I didn’t expect the game to be so highly contested. It was especially surprising because the USA had beaten Serbia twice in the past 22 days by a combined 52 points. But no one told Serbia that because they came out firing on all cylinders taking an early lead. No big deal right? Wrong, they took the lead and kept it, refusing to relinquish it under any circumstances.
In the first quarter the USA finally got a 15 -13 lead but it was short-lived. Serbia was making baskets like their lives depended on them and quickly retook the lead. Whereas Team USA was missing shots, rebounds, and getting called for fouls. It was like they couldn’t do anything right. At one point in the third quarter Team USA trailed Serbia by as many as 15 points. And the nightmare just continued right into the fourth quarter. But down by 13 the tide started to turn. They went on a 21-8 run culminating in a layup from Lebron James to tie the game. Following that was another 3-pointer from Curry to take the lead.
And speaking of three-pointers, Curry had nine of them. Overall he piled up 36 points on 12-of-19 shooting and 9-of-14 from deep. And Lebron finished with a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Joel Embiid came to life in the fourth quarter and put up 19 points for the game. The team started to put more pressure on Serbia forcing them into mistakes and turnovers. After not working well together, it looked as if Team USA had found the chemistry they had been missing.

Lebron shared his thoughts after the game:
“Beating a team three times in three weeks, we knew it was going to be difficult. We knew Serbia was going to give us everything they had, kudos to Serbia,” LeBron James said during his walk-off interview. “But we came through. Chef Curry, what a vintage Chef Curry game. Joel (Embiid) was big time for us, and we needed it.”
As for Steph Curry he was just trying to take it all in.
He said, “This is everything I imagined it to be. Obviously this is my first go around in the Olympics. I knew we were going to get challenged by a great Serbia team. After beating them three times this summer I knew it was going to be tough. I just kind of got lost in the moment of understanding how big this stage is and what’s at stake for this team. And it was special it was the most fun you know that I had in a very long time. To dig deep like we did with this group and get a win… it’s special. So I’m kind of basking in that right now. Obviously you know we got another tough challenge with France on the home court.”
Seeing the team come together like that and rally themselves to victory will not soon be forgotten.
Team USA Headed To Gold Medal Match
So in a thrilling finish Team USA took down Serbia 95-91. Next up will be a blockbuster final against France who will have the home crowd loudly cheering them on. Did you know that Joel Embiid could have played for France but chose to represent Team USA instead? So you can count on the French spectators loudly booing him whenever he is on the court. Will Team USA be able to withstand the challenge of playing in a loud and chaotic Bercy Arena?
