Steph Curry and Steve Kerr Discuss Impact After Warriors Acquire Dennis Schröder From Nets
Golden State needed some help. They started the season red hot but then cooled off with an unfamiliar suddenness. Many basketball fans are used to seeing the Warriors close out games strong. However, the night night celebrations have taken a back seat as the organization has tirelessly worked to get things on track for the rest of the season. This week they accomplished their first goal of adding another weapon to their roster arsenal. On Tuesday in a presser, Steph Curry and Steve Kerr discussed the potential impact of this blockbuster trade after the Warriors acquired Dennis Schröder From the Nets.
This move is exactly what the basketball doctor ordered for Golden State. The team hasn’t been getting blown out. They’re losing games that are rather close. The Warriors got off to a 10-2 start but a 143-133 loss to the Mavericks has now dropped them to 14-11 on the season. Therefore, adding a little more fire power offensively and defensively could definitely make a difference.
In a press conference Steve Kerr excitedly talked about Schröder and how he thinks he will benefit the team. Kerr states,
“I’m thrilled, I told Dennis today he’s kicked my a** on three different continents. If you can’t beat him, join him. But, you know, 22 playoffs, I thought he was brilliant against us with the Lakers. Watching him in FIBA, the last two summers. Philippines and then we played them in London in an exhibition game.
He’s a gamer, he’s a competitor, pick-and-roll player, two-way player … This was a move that we felt made perfect sense and so he will fill what (De’Anthony Melton) was doing for us in terms of being able to play on or off the ball. Excellent defender, long wingspan, he’s a steals guy, forced turnovers, pace, everything that we need, we feel he can provide.”
Steph Curry also had glowing remarks about Schröder. Curry is a fan of the vibes Dennis brings to the court. Regarding Dennis, Steph says,
“He’s got that dog in him, I’ve never not seen him not in the moment with ‘trying to rip your head off’ type vibes. So I like that.”

Schröder is in his 12th NBA season and has been a consistent contributor for seven different franchises. With the Nets, Schröder averaged 18.4 points per game and 6.6 assists per game, shooting a league-best 60.5 percent from the mid-range, career-high 38.7 percent from three and career-best 88.9 percent from the foul line.
And on defense Schröder will be a terror. Some extra bite for the Warriors. The 6’1 guard has a 6’8 wingspan, which is particularly noticeable on defense.
Nevertheless, this trade for Dennis spoke volumes to the Warriors’ desire to maximize their Curry, Green and Kerr window with a win-now veteran. But the franchise isn’t trying to force a square peg into a round hole. The Warriors have had their way of doing things. But they want Schröder to do HIS thing as well. Draymond Green comments,
“I don’t think he was necessarily brought here to fit. We play a certain style of basketball that he does not really play. And I don’t think the goal is to get him to play the style of basketball that we play. We need someone that can do the things that he does and so I’m looking forward to us adjusting to him.”
“He’ll have to adjust to some things and he’s a pro, he understands that. He’s a pro, he understands that. But we have to adjust to him because he’s bringing something that this team needs. To just make him fall in line of what we do, we’d be wasting our time even bringing him here. We need somebody that can do what we necessarily don’t do, and I think that’s what he’ll be for us.”
By those words we are sure GSW fans are yelling a resounding AMEN. The Warriors needed a fresh breath of air. And they’re getting it. On Thursday, Schröder will make his Warriors debut against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum.
