Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson Wants to Return in Black and Gold Next Season

Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson Wants to Return in Black and Gold Next Season

Just days ago Pittsburgh was eliminated from the NFL playoff race. So it is clear things did not work out how the organization wanted. However, now comes the task of working out what changes need to be made in order for the franchise to perform better next season and for the foreseeable future. One aspect that certainly will get a bit of attention is the quarterback position; should they keep Russell Wilson or make a switch to Justin Fields. Nevertheless, in a presser the Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson made it clear he wants to return in black and gold next season.

Makes sense. The Steelers enjoyed a successful regular season. Winning ten games and clinching a spot in the postseason.

Although many focus on Wilson’s age (he is 36); he is still playing well enough to take a team to the playoffs. But it is not just about getting to the postseason; it is about winning championships. The Steelers have to decide if they believe Wilson is still the guy that can help them get closer to that Lombardi.

Well, despite what the front office may be thinking; Wilson wants to remain with Steeler nation. During the Steelers press conference, Russell addressed this very subject. A few reporters asked him some pertinent questions: “Do you want to come back next year? You say that’s the plan to come back… have you expressed that to the Steelers? And have they reciprocated that to you? What about the situation here [in Pittsburgh] makes you want to come back?”

Here’s how Russell Wilson answered all of the above questions:

“Yeah that’s the plan. Obviously, I love it here and everything else. I think we have a great football team and obviously it didn’t end the way we wanted it to; and I think there is a lot more to do. And you know… you know I said to you guys before I always just trust God in the process.

I mean I think that [the Steelers] they’ve known that I’ve always wanted to be here and play here. But you know that it’s also a process. And we haven’t had those meetings yet so… we’ll have those and we’ll go from there.

I just love the guys. I love the locker room, and I love Coach Tomlin; love who he is. I think that you know this place is a place that I think can win a lot. And I think we have a championship caliber football team. Like I said it didn’t go the way we wanted it to this year.

But I love playing football. I love the game. And if it works out that way then I’ll be excited to do that and put the black and gold on again.”

So if it were up to Wilson, he’d stay a Steeler. We will just have to see what Pittsburgh decides. But for now Russell is already moving forward and preparing himself. He’s been spied working already in the gym. The sign of a true hard worker.
