Spurs Victor Wembanyama Expected to Miss Rest of Season Due to Blood Clot

When you’re not feeling well, it is hard to be at your best. And this is the exact scenario and predicament  that a star player of San Antonio has found himself in and enduring. On Thursday, it was revealed that the Spurs Victor Wembanyama is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder. Very serious.

This is so unfortunate to see and hear about because Wemby was putting up great numbers and putting on quite a show for basketball fans. According to StatMuse this season Wemby is:

— Leading NBA in blocks
— Leading NBA in stocks
— Only player with a 5×5
— First player ever with 3+ BPG and 3+ 3PM
— First 20p/10r/1s/3b season since 1996
— Youngest center with a 50-point game
— Youngest center with 30-PT triple-double

ESPN’s Shams Charania was among the first to report on Wemby’s situation. Charania confirms,

“San Antonio Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama is expected to miss reminder of the season with a deep vein thrombosis in right shoulder. Victor Wembanyama has a form of a blood clot in the right shoulder. He is out for the season. The Spurs believe this is an isolated condition.

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama recently felt symptomatic and hoped he would feel better when he took downtime after Sunday’s All-Star game.”

Sam Amick who reports for the Athletic also mentioned that Wemby had been experiencing low energy issues. A development that surprised fans because Wemby had looked good during the All Star Game. He had even provided some nice highlights for enthusiasts to watch and review online. Nevertheless, Amick reveals,

“Victor Wembanyama had experienced low energy lately that was causing concern.

When he still had low energy at All-Star weekend, and through his two-day vacation after it, the tests began that ultimately uncovered the deep vein thrombosis. The Spurs are very confident he’ll be healthy and ready at the start of next season.”

Dr. Evan Jeffries an injuries insider for the NFL and NBA who can be heard on FOX Sports Radio; gave a quick medical overview of what this health issue involves. He says,

“That’s terrible news for Victor. This means he has a blood clot and will need to be on blood thinners for at least 3 months. Always important that they prevent the clot from traveling anywhere (heart/lungs/brain). This is what derailed career of Chris Bosh but doesn’t mean it will for Victor.”

As mentioned this is a serious condition. But it is positive news that the Spurs feel Wemby will be back and ready by next season. Wishing nothing but the best and a fast recovery for Victor Wembanyama.
