Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama Expected to Return Versus OKC in NBA Cup Semifinals
He’s back, and now this matchup is going to be even more fun and hopefully a soon-to-be thriller. San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is expected to return versus OKC in the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas. Victor Wembanyama is officially listed as probable for tomorrow’s NBA Cup game, per Spurs.
ESPN’s basketball insider, Shams Charania, appeared on NBA Today to break the story and posted to social media platform X, stating,
“San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama is likely to return for Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas, sources tell ESPN. Final clearance will come after today’s practice for Wembanyama, who’s been sidelined since Nov. 14 due to a calf strain.”
So then, yes it’s been a few weeks since we all witnessed Wemby on the court; and it also has been a minute since he faced off against OKC. This will be Wemby’s first game back since November 14 vs Golden State. Victor hasn’t faced the Thunder since October 30, 2024. However, now he will battle it out as the Spurs try to spoil the Thunder’s historic run. While the Spurs went an impressive 9-3 without him (holding down the fort), they were going to need Wembanyama in the paint to help threaten OKC.

Nonetheless, the Oklahoma City Thunder have made franchise as well as NBA history. Enjoying one of the best starts and records in a season. The Thunder are following up a 68-14 season where they won Game 7 of the NBA Finals by getting off to a 24-1 start. This means that the Thunder have matched the Golden State Warriors’ 24-1 start, and if everything continues on just the same; OKC could easily find themselves breaking the Warriors 73-win record.
Therefore, Saturday’s marquee game is must see TV for a number of reasons. Can the Thunder keep the streak going and amass more than 73 wins? Or will Victor Wembanyama join Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper to spoil OKC’s victory party?
We will see. But the best part is that this is not the only time this season we are going to see all these guys go at it. Mark your calendars because coming up, the Spurs and OKC will meet up tomorrow, December 23rd and December 25th. Grab your popcorn.
