Some Thoughts On Preseason Week 2 Saturday Games
Some teams had their starters play and other teams didn’t. Some players showed improvement and others didn’t. There were 13 games played so I’ll just share some thoughts on the preseason Week 2 Saturday Games. I’ll start with the Kansas City Chiefs and their first round pick Xavier Worthy. You’ll recall he set a new record in the 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine earlier this year. Well that speed was on full display on Saturday and it looks like Patrick Mahomes has himself a shiny new weapon. It should be fun to watch them connect when the regular season begins.
And staying with the Chiefs, Mahomes and Travis Kelce looked like they made a mistake on one play. Mahomes did a behind-the-back pass which Kelce somehow caught and rumbled down the field for a first down. Mahomes said, “Out of spite, I threw a behind-the-back pass.” He explains what he means in the video. I wonder if we’ll be seeing that pass in the regular season.
Moving on to the New York Giants, starting QB Daniel Jones was back in action. However, his performance was shaky as two of three of his first drives ended in interceptions, one of them being a pick six. He improved as the game went on but he’ll have to be better if he’s going to keep his starting job.
The Giants were playing the Houston Texans and C.J. Stroud and his starters looked just fine, poised to pick up where they left off. The rest of the preseason will be a battle for their backups to prove they deserve a spot on the roster. And there is only one week left to do it.
Some Thoughts On Preseason Week 2 Saturday Games
The Pittsburgh Steelers were playing musical chairs with their offensive line. So QB Russell Wilson had little time to make his throws against the Buffalo Bills starting defense. Justin Fields had some opportunities to lead game-winning drives. However, they turned the ball over on downs every time. This is not the offensive performance Steelers fans wanted to see, as the team only mustered 3 points losing the game.
It would appear that the Raiders do not have a franchise quarterback. Neither Gardner Minshew II or Aidan O’Connell did much to impress. However, head coach Antonio Pierce announced this morning that Minshew will be the starting QB.
There were so many things to talk about but these were a few things that stood out to me. And we still have one more preseason week to go.
