Simone Biles Wins Gold and Suni Lee Wins Bronze in 2024 Olympic Gymnastics All-Around

Simone Biles Wins Gold and Suni Lee Wins Bronze in 2024 Olympic Gymnastics All-Around!

THEY DID IT! Simone Biles Wins Gold and Suni Lee Wins Bronze in the 2024 Olympic Gymnastics All-Around! Here is our recap on how they got it done.

The Gymnastics All-Around features the best of the best in the entire world. And these athletes go head-to-head and compete against each other in this Olympic event. In qualification earlier in the week, the gymnasts who performed the best earned their way and a spot into the All-Round. For the Americans, Suni Lee as well as Simone Biles ended up being the country’s representatives.

Team USA’s first event in their four rotations is the Vault. This is one of Biles’s strongest events. However, Suni Lee goes first.

Lee does not even look nervous. Game face on she sprints down and flips off the table and hits her landing with the smallest of hops. She scores a 13.933 with a yellow mark; yellow means it is a solid score.

Biles is next to go. Simone’s vault is the highest among all the competitors because she does an entire extra flip than everyone else. A very dangerous maneuver. But she pulls it off and nabs a whopping 15.766 with a green mark; meaning that it is an excellent score.

The biggest competition for Suni and Simone are the ladies of Brazil. They are oftentimes flawless in their approach to their routines. And are also fearless to do moves with high start values. So then, the All-Round podium favorites certainly are Rebeca Andrade (Brazil); Simone Biles (USA)… but can not count out the ladies of Italy or Algeria either.

After the first rotation a familiar face is at the top of the scoreboard. The most decorated gymnast ever, Simone Biles. And her next event, like Suni, are the Uneven Bars.

In the bar routine some of the aspects that judges are looking for, are for the gymnasts to look like a pencil. Feet together. And great rhythm going between the bars as well as a clean landing.

Biles struggles slightly in this part of the rotation. During a connection it seems as though she didn’t get the best grip going from the high to lower bar. She ends up bending her legs in order to not have her legs or feet scrape the mat. However, she is able to save this routine, especially thanks to no other mistakes and a stuck landing. She scores a 13.733 with a yellow mark which drops her to second.

Suni at this point is in seventh. She has some work to do to medal. But with the All-Around you never are sure of the winner till the very end when all the scores have been counted and added up. Each gymnast specializes in different skills, so throughout the competition the positioning of the scoreboard changes constantly.

On Uneven Bars Suni is FANTASTIC! She hits everything with precision and sticks the landing. Judges score her routine with a 14.866 and green mark.

At this point of the competition Biles is in third and Lee is sitting in fifth. With two events to go, usually medals are fought between the top five. So then, Lee and Biles both now stand a good chance to stand on the podium.

Next in the rotation is Balance Beam. Biles is exceptional on beam. As usual she turns in an amazing performance thanks to her powerful three backflip combination. Thus, scoring a 14.566 accompanied by a green mark.

Suni Lee is just as exhilarating on beam! Her routine features several maneuvers with blind landings; meaning she can’t see her what’s below her and just has to sense the beam as well as be spot on with her movements. Her exquisite efforts place her in two way tie for bronze! Lee has a big opportunity to medal even not having the best start in the competition.

Now time for the final event… Floor Exercise. For the Americans, Suni is up first and she is ELECTRIC. Her first tumbling pass is so huge. This girl gets AIR with several gravity defying flips and sticks the landing! A beautiful start. Additionally, her whole routine is so graceful and contains literally no mistakes. Judges give Lee a score of 13.666; and now we wait.

Last to go is Biles. And boy does SHE DELIVER! Every pass is a dramatic display of power and execution. She begins with her signature Triple twisting back flips and only continues to wow the audience. She scores a HUGE 15.066 securing the gold, her 6th Olympic gold medal! Which is more than any American gymnast, male or female, in history.

Suni Lee is also going to stand on the podium. After all the scores are combined Lee wins the bronze medal! Therefore, Team USA puts two on the podium. This is the 6th consecutive time the United States has won the All-Around. Plus, the 3rd time America has put 2 team members on the podium during the All-Around Olympics event. And Biles is also the oldest woman to win the All-World since 1952. Congratulations to these two amazing gymnasts and champions.
