Simone Biles Wins Again Voted Laureus World Sportswoman Of The Year
Does it sometimes seem like everything she touches turns to gold? With her mind-blowing vaults and epic floor exercises she leaves us all shaking our heads in amazement. She has won plenty of sports awards in the past and this year is no different. Simone Biles wins again as she has been voted the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year. Granted the Laureus Awards may not be as well known as some other Awards. But they have been around for 25 years.
Johann Rupert is the chairman of Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA which helped found found Laureus and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. He believes that sport can change the way people look at the world. The true values of sport can bring together families, friends, nations – and on occasions, the whole world – in a way that no other human activity can. Laureus’ passion is based on a simple truth: whoever you are, wherever you live, whatever your background; sport can give you the chance to be a better person tomorrow than you are today.
Based on these lofty ideals, the 2025 Laureus Awards were presented yesterday, April 21. Some of the award categories presented are Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, World Team of the Year and World Comeback of the Year. And of course this year it was Simone Biles taking home the Sportswoman of the Year. But this wasn’t her first rodeo. She has also won the award three times before in 2017, 2019 and 2020. Tennis superstar Serena Williams also won the award four times in 2003, 2010, 2016 and 2018.
Some of the male athletes who have won Sportsman of the Year include Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, Novak Djokovic, Lionel Messi and Lewis Alexander. In fact, both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have snagged the award five times. But this year another Olympic gold medalist claimed the prize. Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis took home the award after captivating audiences at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Another crowd-favorite at the 2024 Paris Olympics was gymnast Rebeca Andrade. She walked away with the World Comeback of the Year award. During her gymnastics career she has suffered three ACL injuries, all of which required reconstructive surgeries. Yet she persevered and Andrade left Paris as the most decorated Brazilian Olympian of all time, with six Olympic medals in total.
As for Biles, with her 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals she is the most decorated gymnast in history. However, Biles expressed her belief in the Laureus Awards stating:
“I won this Award for the first time in 2017 and Laureus has been a part of my story since then, and I share their belief that sport has the power to change the world,” Biles said of her record night. “That might be a little girl watching someone like me on television and deciding she can do it, too. Or it could be the incredible work Laureus Sport for Good has undertaken for the past 25 years, all over the world.”
Congratulations Simone, keep inspiring the whole world!
