Simone Biles Vaults To The Front Of The Competition
She’s had an absolutely dominant career for several years now. And this weekend has been no different as Simone Biles vaults to the front of the competition. She literally scored the highest on the vault event with a 15.800 score. That score put her comfortably in the league with a 1.30 point cushion over second place. She performed her famous Yurchenko double pike vault (a.k.a the Biles II) which gave her the huge score she received.
Biles is seeking to earn her ninth national all-around title and she’s off to a great start. She performed very well in the other exercises: floor exercise (15.200), balance beam (14.800) and uneven bars (14.650). Only Biles and Skye Blakely were the only gymnasts to record a 15.00 score. Other ladies are also putting on a show and wowing the audience. The standings after the first day of competition are below:
- Simon Biles leads the field on all apparatus, topping the standings on vault (15.375; 15.800, 14.950), floor exercise (15.200), balance beam (14.800) and uneven bars (14.650).
- Skye Blakely is second all-around with a 57.050, posting the second-highest scores on vault (14.575; 15.000, 14.150) and beam (14.450).
- Kayla DiCello is third with a 56.850 in the all-around and is second on floor (13.850) and tied with Jordan Chiles for second on bars (14.500).
- Suni Lee currently ranks fourth with a 55.750, including a third-placing score of 14.200 on beam.
It’s so incredible that Biles is leading in every event. That’s no easy feat with the competition she is up against. Especially since this isn’t her first competition. She’s been at this for awhile and is still at the top of her sport. Check out a clip of her floor exercise.

In other news, three-time Olympic champion Gabby Douglas had to withdraw from the competition due to an ankle injury while training for this event. However, she plans to continue training to represent the U.S. at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Shilese Jones also withdrew from the U.S. championships a few hours before the women’s meet began Friday due to a right shoulder injury. She intends to file a petition to compete at Olympic Trials next month.
So tonight the all-around competition will wrap up in primetime from 6:00 – 8:00pm CT. You can catch it on Peacock (in the U.S.) or on USA Gymnastics YouTube (outside the U.S.)
