Simone Biles and Team USA Wins Gold at 2024 Paris Olympics!
4 rotations. 4 events. And now a team of champions! Simone Biles and Team USA Wins Gold at 2024 Paris Olympics and we have your complete recap of all the competition action.
After a calf injury scare during qualification. It was so nice to see Simone smiling, practicing, warming up… and then putting her game face on!
The United States had a bit of a challenge ahead of them on the way to gold. Being more so of an “older team.” Which sounds crazy since every member is in their 20’s or younger. However, this year’s squad is the oldest USA team since the 1950’s. Gymnastics has long been a game and competition of youth and vigor. However, when your top veteran is Simone Biles, nothing seems impossible.
Nevertheless, after warm up every country is ready and set to go. Jordan Chiles (named after Michael Jordan); got the party started for Team USA on Vault. Showcasing her immense power during this event. There is a bit of a hop on her landing but otherwise a very good vault. Next up was Jade Carey (this was her only event of the night) and she was phenomenal! Scoring 14.800.
Last to go during this event is Simone Biles, with one of the hardest vaults of the night. Her NFL husband is heard loudly cheering his wife on, then Biles goes for it… and delivers. Judges give her vault a 14.900.
Team USA moves on to uneven bars. Chiles goes first, then Biles, with Suni Lee capping things off. Jordan executes every move flawlessly, points the toes and sticks the landing. Biles makes all of her connections during her routine look easy and grabs another great score. Suni Lee makes one mistake during the middle of her routine but she powers through! And with a high start value, Lee and Team USA really had nothing to worry about. So far in competition, they are the team to beat.
However, next in the rotation for the USA is the balance beam. And another mistake occurs. In an otherwise perfect routine, Jordan Chiles has a fall right at the beginning. But even with that, the United States still finds themselves in the number one position with a 8 point lead over gymnastics juggernaut, China.
But Suni Lee puts on an extravagant display on beam. No wobbles. Scores a 14.600. Simone Biles is just as electrifying. Judges reward her with a 14.366.
With Balance Beam now in the books. 3 events are now complete with one more to go. Floor exercise.
Simone Biles and Team USA Wins Gold at 2024 Paris Olympics!
Team USA goes into the final rotation with a sizable lead. However, it is not time to let the foot off the pedal. It is time to perform and seal the deal.
Suni Lee is the first to go on floor. To the judges it is not her best work; and they give her a 13.553. Team USA has been scoring 14’s all competition, so a 13 is a low score for them.
This just shows that a gold medal is never a lock. You have to perform. And those deductions are a killer.
But then Jordan Chiles does a MONSTER routine! Jumping, leaping and sticking landings left and right to the music of Beyonce. Scoring a 13.966.
Last up… with the weight of the team win on her shoulders, Simone Biles takes the floor. And she SOARS! Basically telling gravity to take a hike for a minute; and gives Team USA the final points they need to be gold medalists!
Congratulations to Suni, Jordan, Jade, Simone and Hezly. Enjoy those Paris parties ladies. By the way, Italy wins the silver and Brazil won the bronze.
