Shohei Ohtani’s Dog is Named Decoy!
We finally have a name for the $700 million dollar man’s adorable pup. For a bit now, all of baseball has been inquiring about the cute dog spotted next to the Ohtani during a television appearance. However, the beans are now spilling, Shohei Ohtani’s dog is named Decoy.
Nevertheless, this is the sweet dog’s American name. In Japanese it is a tad bit different. Why?
Well, for one thing, Shohei understands that it may be difficult for his non-Japanese fans to be able to pronounce his little family member’s name. In a press interview for the Dodgers’ organization; to present Ohtani as a new member of the team, Shohei alludes to this predicament.
After being asked what his dog’s name is; Ohtani reveals that in Japanese it is, Dekopin. However, knowing that may be a little hard for some to say, he also has an American name for Dekopin; which is simply Decoy. Perfect.
Yet, you may be wondering what Dekopin means in Japanese? Wonder no more. It is a word (noun) that refers to “the act of flicking someone’s forehead with a finger.” Fitting lol.

Therefore, everyone… meet Decoy. However, many remember Dekopin from just a couple weeks ago. Decoy made quite the splash during baseball award time, when Ohtani is busy bringing home bragging rights for being the Most Valuable Player in the AL.
A very notable feat, especially since Shohei suffers an unfortunate elbow injury; and is no longer usable towards the very end of the season. Which is only shows just how good and impactful he is on a team. In both pitching as well as batting.
Nonetheless, when giving an interview about his MVP award for the 2023 season, Decoy is right by his dad’s side. And looking very fashionable if we may say. Both Ohtani and Decoy wear stylish BOSS looks for the occasion.

However, it’s not only Decoy’s voguish fashion sense that takes the world by storm; but his actions. During the MVP tv appearance Decoy happily looks at dad, Shohei Ohtani, and gives him a big high five. Pulling at everyone’s heart strings simultaneously.
No one shall forget. Everyone will remember it. Plus, now Decoy’s father is now one of the richest athletes in sports. Not a bad family to be apart of; surely one that will give him all the high-end treats and toys he deserves. Nice to meet you Decoy!
