Shohei Ohtani Has Elbow Surgery- Ohtani Speaks Out+Batting/Pitching Expectations

The Angels top guy hit the headlines with the news that his locker had been completely cleaned out. Speculations immediately arose of what this could mean or imply; yet quickly calms when a presser reveals one of the AL’s biggest stars is just being shutdown for the season due to injury. Now, the future is starting to take more shape with talk of a medical procedure. Therefore, what’s the latest on this high profile situation? Well, two way player, Shohei Ohtani has elbow surgery and is now speaking out to fans.

Ohtani literally left it all on the field during the 2023 season. With over 40 home runs for the season, and just a smidge under 100 RBIs, over 160 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA. Freaking insane!

Moreover, with free agency on loom; injuries or not, several teams still want an opportunity to get the “modern Babe Ruth.” Nevertheless, Shohei is already taking steps to get his body and health back on MVP levels. Earlier today he states,

“I had a procedure done on my elbow earlier this morning and everything went very well. Thank you very much for everyone’s prayers and kind words.

It was very unfortunate that I couldn’t finish out the year on the field. [However], I will be rooting on the boys until the end.

I will work as hard as I can and do my best to come back on the diamond stronger than ever. Go Halos!”

Angels beat writer, Jeff Fletcher, a trusted news source on all things Ohtani also confirms this story. Jeff reveals,

“Shohei Ohtani had surgery. Shohei Ohtani underwent a procedure today in Los Angeles. A statement released by his agent didn’t specify the exact procedure; [however], it said that Ohtani will be ready to hit on Opening Day 2024 and pitch in 2025. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure.

[Furthermore] in chatting quickly with a few people about the description attributed to ElAttrache in the statement. This was not a traditional Tommy John surgery with a reconstruction. It was a repair.

Still won’t pitch till 2025. [Yet it] does speed up the rehab slightly on the hitting side.”

While most teams like the idea of getting a pitcher and batter; many will still be happy to get a guy who can knock in over a 100 runs before the season can even end. Nevertheless, Shohei is a tough competitor so he will do the work to get his pitching back to an elite status. Get well soon Ohtani, we’re all looking forward to seeing more pitching and batting magic.
