Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers Are Donating to Help Those Affected by Japan New Years Earthquake
Literally just hours into 2024, the unthinkable happens. A devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake strikes the country of Japan. Images and videos unfortunately show untold amounts of damage. Many will need support; and the MLB is doing their part to provide. Therefore, in collaboration, Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers are donating to help those affected by Japan New Years earthquake.
To make a $1 million dollar contribution, the Los Angeles Dodgers are teaming up with Guggenheim Baseball. By the way, if you forgot… Guggenheim Baseball Management is the ownership group of the Los Angeles Dodgers professional baseball team.
Nonetheless, the two entities are happy to come together for the greater good. The Dodgers’ official statement regarding this donation reads as follows:
“In collaboration with Shohei Ohtani, who is making his own personal contribution. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball are donating $1 million to support those affected by the New Year’s earthquake in Japan. Our thoughts are with all of Japan in the wake of this tragedy.”

Furthermore, new LA Dodger, Shohei Ohtani also gives a statement about doing his part, and his well wishes for those affected. Shohei states,
“In support of the disaster relief efforts for the 2024 Sea of Japan earthquake and in collaboration with the Dodgers. I am making a donation in aid of the survivors. [Moreover] I would like to thank those who have joined in the recovery effort; and my hope is that we continue to come together to support those whose lives have been upended. I hope for the rapid rescue of missing persons and the reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.”
What a class act, and class organization to help so many currently in need. These are the moments and stories that make sports great. Yes, America’s favorite pastime is an industry that makes untold amounts of revenue; however, when it is time to give back, Major League Baseball is right there to answer the call.
