Shedeur Sanders Picked by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft
Iconic coach John Madden once said, “The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer… The only yardstick for success our society has is being a champion. No one remembers anything else.” Yes, the road towards success is not always pretty and challenge free. It’s often arduous and strenuous mentally as well as physically. But one player who is ready to make the most of his newest opportunity is quarterback Shedeur Sanders who was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Yes, the road to the top is not always something that football fans even recall; but what they never forget is who came into the league and made a true and lasting impact. However, it is the athletes themselves who remember everything. The grind, the grit… and even at times those who may not have noticed or had much appreciation for their talent.
For instance, think of Purdy on the San Francisco 49ers. Literally, was Mr. Irrelevant in his draft class. The very LAST pick. But look now, he already has taken the 9ers to the Super Bowl. Nice.
Or there is the GOAT himself. Mister Seven Time Champion was not drafted in the first round or the second. Heck, he didn’t even go in rounds three or four. He was a sixth round pick who went on to do great and legendary things in New England as well as Tampa Bay.
Now, we are not saying Shedeur is the next Purdy or Brady. But just showing how it is not about when you go in the draft, but where. And it is VERY important what you do with the opportunity when you get it. We are sure there are 31 GMs still kicking themselves for not seeing potential in Tom Brady.
Cleveland Browns Draft Shedeur Sanders
However, that is the beauty of sports; the purpose of the entire draft is to strengthen all the teams. And each year players come along that can help transform a franchise. To help get things more competitively on track. And as long as a player is hungry, great things can happen.
And Shedeur Sanders seems ready to get to work. Before being selected by the Browns and after falling out the first round on Thursday; Sanders demonstrated a good head on his shoulders stating,
“We all didn’t expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything possible, everything possible. I don’t feel like this happened for no reason. All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire. Under no circumstances did we all know this was going to happen, but we understand we on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We going to be happy regardless.”
That’s a solid way to look at things. And a good attitude. Don’t be upset; just be fueled to be your very best in the league.
Perfect Timing—Shedeur Sanders Draft Wait Continues
Nevertheless, how did things shape up for Shedeur on draft night two? Well, he still endured a bit of a wait. In fact, he still went undrafted the entire evening. Watching as others including other quarterbacks being taken before him.
For instance, one of the teams during night two still needing a quarterback was the New Orleans Saints. And they got one. With pick 40, the Saints picked QB Tyler Shough coming from Louisville, standing tall at 6’4. Shough was the third quarterback selected in the 2025 draft; and is also now the highest drafted quarterback to the Saints since Archie Manning in 1971.
Nonetheless, in time the wait period for Sanders came to an end. Come Saturday, in round five with the 144th pick the Cleveland Browns gave Shedeur Sanders the opportunity he had been looking for to receive. The Browns drafted Sanders moving him into a QB room that also consists of Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett and a newly drafted Dillion Gabriel.
Gabriel went in the third round over Sanders. It is very odd that a team would grab two quarterbacks in the same draft. And it’s very interesting since the organization made moves for Flacco and seemed to be behind Watson. How Sanders will play into their future plans and picture for now is a mystery. So it will be riveting to see what they plan to do with all their arms.

However, in Sanders case he has the skills and talent to make a future impact for the Browns. Shedeur Sanders’ college accolades include winning the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the top upperclassman quarterback in 2024, being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and being a first-team All-Big 12 selection. Additionally, as one of the Buffs at the University of Colorado; Shedeur set many records. Including records in: passing yards, completions, attempts, touchdowns, completion percentage, and quarterback rating in a single season.
Sanders is also ready to get to work. After being drafted he stated,
“Thank you to everyone out there… thank you to the fans and the Browns organization for giving me a chance. That’s all I needed.
Our belief in God, that’s all we care about. We know these decisions, things happen; sometimes there’s adversity… you can’t control that. So you just have to remain positive and stay happy at all times and know God got you. I knew the whole time God had me so I wasn’t really panicking because I understood it. It’s about perfect timing.”
Well, the time is now. The hard work begins now for all the draftees and Sanders. During the upcoming season and beyond we will get to see how they all perform. Who succeeds and who doesn’t. Whenever Shedeur does finally get his chance we are sure he will give it his all and we can’t wait to see what that entails. Congratulations to Sanders and the entire 2025 draft class.
