Shaq Says Michael Jordan GOAT Since Never Lost in Finals; as KD Passes MJ on All-Time Scoring List

MJ has been popping up in the news a lot lately. In the last couple of days his NASCAR team won its fourth race of the season. Luka joined Wilt Chamberlain as well as MJ and others in 30+ point games history. And Kevin Durant slid past him in scoring. Nevertheless, one former NBA player wanted to make things crystal clear still regarding Mike; that there isn’t anyone beating him in basketball legacy. In his latest podcast, Shaq says Michael Jordan is the GOAT since he never lost in the finals; as KD passes MJ on the all-time scoring list.

When you open the NBA history books, it now reads: LeBron, Kareem, Malone, Kobe and Durant as the top scorers ever to play the game. However, this is no way changes the fact that Jordan was and is still a legend. He dominated with 6 NBA championships (two 3-peats), 6 Finals MVPs, 5 league MVPs, Rookie of the Year and a record 10 scoring titles. And oh yeah, can’t forget those pesky 11 All-NBA teams and him winning 5 MVPs.

Nevertheless, it’s his long list of accomplishments in the regular season; but especially, in the postseason as to why Shaq believes Michael will just never be touched. During his The Big Podcast, Shaq stated,

​”Mike is the greatest of all time because of how he played, how he dominated, and he never lost in the finals. So, I know a lot of people going to see this like you said and ‘oh, he doing this and he do that.’ I played with Kobe, I know what a killer he was, but to me as a kid and going against him, then being the only guy to beat him in the playoffs for him to retire after three and then come back and get three, yeah, he was a different animal.”

Furthermore, even Kevin Durant who just surpassed the iconic Michael Jordan, shared similar sentiments to O’Neal. Via his Boardroom Talks, Durant says it’s bigger than stats with Michael Jordan. KD remarks,

“MJ is just bigger than the game. I mean, no matter who passes him in stats or who wins more, it’s going to be hard to win. Go 6-0. Even if you were to pass him in anything, just his impact on the sport and just culture in general is just too big.”

Additionally, KD said records are made to be broken and one day someone will surpass him. He even offered up a few names on who he believes could be the ones to do it; Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic. But that’s the beauty of sports. We watch history entertainingly play out right before our eyes; then we spend years debating it. Good times.
