Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Passes Wilt Chamberlain For Longest 20 Point Streak in NBA History
Back in 2024, he said everything he does is about consistency. In 2026 he put the period on that statement. In a thriller win over the Boston Celtics, OKC Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander passes Wilt Chamberlain for the longest 20 point streak in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain’s streak: 126 (Oct. 19, 1961-Jan. 19, 1963); and now Shai: 127 (Nov. 1, 2024-).
It has been a wild week for NBA basketball fans. We have witnessed the return of Jayson Tatum in record speed from an Achilles injury. Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo surpasses the late Kobe Bryant for the second most points in a game, putting up 83 to Kobe’s 81. The San Antonio Spurs complete the second largest comeback in franchise history. And now we got SGA pushing his team to repeat and passing the great Wilt Chamberlain. A great week of hoops.
However, zeroing in on SGA’s accomplishment. Chamberlain’s record stood for over sixty years. 63 to be exact.
Now yes, Wilt’s streak including playoff games is 141, while Shai’s streak would be much lower (for those that like to get technically ticky-tacky). However, 127 straight regular season games of putting up 20+ points is still impressive. It’s a record that was about two years in the making for both Shai and Wilt. And for SGA it is still a feat that will most likely stand and last for a good while. Therefore, congratulations to him.
Also, SGA’s response to setting this record demonstrates that his focus isn’t on the history books; it’s about getting the victory. The Thunder and Celtics were in a TIGHT battle all game long on Thursday evening, with the lead changing hands over and over again. In the end Oklahoma City would come away with the big win, edging out the Celtics 102-104. After the game, SGA discussed passing Wilt and defeating Boston stating, “The streak is a streak. The awards are the awards. But the thing I’m most proud of is winning.”

Awesome mindset to have Shai. Nevertheless, what about other players and legends of the game? Who else put up some wild 20-point game streaks? Well, of course, Wilt Chamberlain pops up all over this category. But can’t leave out the iconic Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant. Take a look below:
Most consecutive 20-point games in NBA history:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 127
Wilt Chamberlain: 126
Wilt Chamberlain: 92
Oscar Robertson: 79
Kevin Durant: 72
Michael Jordan: 72
