Sha’Carri Richardson & Noah Lyles Win Big In Budapest

The 2023 World Athletics is underway in Budapest, Hungary. And two Americans, Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles won big in Budapest yesterday! They both won the 100-meter world title. And Sha’Carri set a personal best time of 10.65 seconds. That was a great accomplishment considering the competition. She was able to win out over the Jamaican ladies, Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who have been dominant in the sport. They finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Besides gaining a professional accomplishment, she seems to be conquering her personal situation as well. Last year she wasn’t able to advance in the U.S Track and Field Championship. She was roundly criticized for it. It was also widely published that she failed a marijuana test which prevented her from participating in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. All of the criticism she received professionally appeared to affect her personally.

She took full responsibility for the test and attributed it to trying to cope with the death of her mother. It seems reasonable that someone could make a mistake like that especially being a young woman. Unfortunately, people can be extremely unsympathetic and refused to make any allowances for the lapse.

However, Sha’Carri has rebounded in a positive way. She even said, “I am going to stay humble. I’m not back, I’m better and I’ll continue to be better.” Now she is focusing on being the best she can be on and off the track. Clearly she is not listening to any negativity and is continuing to work on improving herself.

With this recent victory Sha’Carri has firmly declared herself to be in medal contention for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. I think this video is confirmation of that declaration. And I couldn’t be happier for Sha’Carri being able to put her life into perspective allowing her to perform at a world class level.

Not to be outdone was Noah Lyles who claimed the gold for the men’s 100m competition. Everyone else may have been shocked by this but not Noah. He made it clear that he believed in himself and then backed it up with a stunning victory. Earning himself the title of Fastest Man in the World.

The two together accomplished an American sweep. It seems that we should continue to expect great things from the pair and I’m looking forward to watching them. I wish them all the best.
