Sebi was definitely at his best in Miami! Great serving, aggressive at the baseline and  demonstrated excellent poise. Sebastian Korda upsets Carlos Alcaraz for his first ever win over a reigning No. 1. At 25 years old, Korda takes the win 6-3 5-7 6-4.

Korda was noticeably elated and grinning ear to ear after achieving the biggest victory of his career. When asked how it felt to defeat the World No.1 and how he was able to accomplish such a feat; Sebastian replied,

“It feels great. I took the scenic route that’s for sure [laughter]. A little more stress than I would want but happy with how I played and stayed with it. Kept believing. I got myself in some nasty situations. Just kept going and kept believing. I played really well at the end.

I’ve gone through a lot of things, played a lot of great players. Haven’t been able to get it done but I felt always when I was playing these top players that I’d start spraying the ball and try to do a bit too much than I need to do. With Ryan we sat down, our goal today was to play average. Just have an average ball. Don’t do too much with it. That’s when you get in trouble. That’s kind of what [Alcaraz] is searching for, is for you start spraying and you get yourself in trouble against him.

I was as aggressive as possible. I served great the whole match. That’s what you need to do to beat a player like him. He’s unbelievable in every aspect of his game. Movement, volleys, forehand, backhand.. there’s nothing he can’t do. I had to be aggressive. I had to take the ball out of his hand and take the point in my favor.”

Nonetheless, it is not a normal occurrence to see Carlos lose a matchup. He’s known for playing great tennis. Therefore, naturally most want to know his current thought process and how he plans to get back on track. Alcaraz discussed this briefly with the media after his loss to Korda, stating,

“Well, I don’t know. I don’t know. Probably I’m going to go back home, which I’m just looking forward to, stay chilling with my family, with my friends. A couple of days. I don’t know how much they, my team, are going to allow me to have rest and days off. And all of a sudden you just go back on track, go back on the court. The clay season is around the corner and I have really good tournaments that I’m excited about playing there.

My mind right now is to take some days off, reset my mind, reset batteries and be ready and in a good state for the clay season.”

It sounds like Alcaraz definitely could use some much needed rest. And no doubt he will get some soon. But as for Korda, the job is not finished. After stunning World No. 1 Alcaraz in dramatic fashion; Sebi is through to the fourth round on home soil. He will next face Martin Landaluce.
