Seattle Seahawks Tapped Mike Macdonald As Head Coach
Another NFL head coaching position has been filled. The Seattle Seahawks have tapped Mike Macdonald as their new head coach. He replaces Pete Carroll, the winningest head coach of the franchise. Macdonald was the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. He was officially introduced by the organization in a press conference this morning at 11:00 AM PST. The excitement and enthusiasm of the new coach and General Manager John Schneider was palpable.
Macdonald and his wife were greeted by team employees upon their arrival at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. He said, “We are super excited to be here. Just getting to know John and the rest of the folks, the reputation of this place, what drew us here was the people. That’s why we’re here, to bring a championship back to Seattle and the 12s.” He went on to say. “We’re going to have a lot of fun, we’re going to work our tails off. And it’s going to be an incredible ride. We’re going to be here for a long time, and we’re going to win a lot of football games.”
Here are some fun facts provided by Seahawks.com:
- Only one team in NFL history led the league in scoring defense, takeaways and sacks. That team was the 2023 Ravens. Under Macdonald’s leadership they allowed just 16.5 points per game, recorded 60 sacks and 31 takeaways.
- At the age of 36 that makes him the youngest head coach in the NFL. Exactly half the age of former coach Pete Carroll who is 72.
- Macdonald has worked under both Harbaugh brothers. He spent much of his career on John Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore. And served as the defensive coordinator at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh in 2021.

Macdonald had great success with the Ravens. Therefore, the Seahawks hope for him to bring that defensive excellence to their organization. Macdonald pointed out in the press conference that he and Pete Carroll have different personalities. And he plans to be himself and let everyone get to know him. But he is definitely going to run his own program. So it will be exciting times ahead for the Seahawks and their fans.
There remains one more head coaching job to fill. Rumors indicate that Dan Quinn is going to be the guy for the Washington Commanders. We’ll keep you posted on that.
