Seattle Mariners Cal Raleigh is MLB Home Run Leader After Blasting His 23rd
In baseball it’s easy to get used to hearing names like Shohei Ohtani or Aaron Judge. Both of these superstars swing a mean bat and find themselves high on this season’s homer rankings. However, one catcher cannot be ignored this year. He’s on pace to put up historic numbers at the plate especially when comparing the guy to some other all-time great catchers with standout seasons. Yes, the Seattle Mariners Cal Raleigh is the MLB home run leader after blasting his 23rd of the year.
Raleigh is certainly proving to be a valuable player and offensive weapon for the Mariners. The franchise is currently leading their division the American League West with 32 wins. And so far, beating out their divisional rivals the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
Part of the team’s success has been due to Cal’s monstrous at bats. Raleigh has hit five of the longest home runs witnessed so far this season. His homers this year have traveled:
- 412 Feet
- 420 Feet (twice)
- 422 Feet
- 432 Feet
With this much power behind his swing; this makes Raleigh a big threat at the plate. When he steps up; he has the ability to hit it out at any park. As the Washington Post noted, “In a typical major league ballpark, center field stands 400 feet from home plate.” Of course, it also depends on a specific ballpark’s dimensions; but with Cal hitting five of his home runs over 400 feet, he’s having no real issues regardless of the stadium.

Cal Raleigh has also been named the Co-Player of the Week along with Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero. Major League Baseball revealed exactly why explaining the kind of history Cal is busy making. They state,
“Raleigh, 28, hit .348 (8×23) with 6 runs, 6 home runs, 10 RBI and 1 stolen base, getting on base at a .444 clip and slugging 1.130 (1.575 OPS).
The switch-hitting catcher homered in 4 of 6 games during the week, including multi-homer games on May 27 vs. Washington and May 30 vs. Minnesota. Cal became the first catcher in MLB history to reach the 20-homer mark before June 1. It marks just the 29th time in MLB history and the 5th time a Mariners player has reached 20 homers by the end of May, joining Ken Griffey Jr. (3x, 1994, ’97, ’99) and Alex Rodriguez (1998).”
Awesome. Well, we hope Raleigh’s bat stays hot because it’s always fun to see absolute bombs being blasted out to the stands. And we will wait to see if he makes even more history this season.
