Seattle Mariners and Josh Naylor Agreed to a Five Year Contract Extension
This was a team that was close to winning it all this year. And their acquired first baseman was an integral part of their success. For this reason, they have decided to make a move to keep their productive core in place. On Sunday, the Seattle Mariners and Josh Naylor agreed to a five year contract extension.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke the exciting news while detailing why this decision was deemed necessary and a must for the Seattle ball club. Passan states,
“BREAKING: First baseman Josh Naylor and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. The first major free agent to sign this winter goes back to Seattle, where he was beloved after joining the Mariners in a deadline trade.
The Mariners made Josh Naylor their top priority entering the winter, and his excellence down the stretch got him a long-term deal to join Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez and the Mariners’ rotation as a foundational piece. His energy was infectious. Seattle didn’t want to lose it.”
Sports anchor Ari Alexander followed discussing the financial side of things. Alexander adds, “League source confirms the Mariners are finalizing a 5-year deal with 1B Josh Naylor. Source tells me the deal is in the $90-100 million range.”
This estimated figure proved to be correct. Naylor does indeed receive a contract for $92.5 million. And it’s all due to his talent on the field.
During the 2025 season, the 28-year-old first baseman turned into an amazing base stealer. He went 30-for-32 on steals, including 19-for-19 after a deadline trade to Seattle. Although, Naylor may lack the speed of other base runners; his timing cannot be ignored. He knows when to go for the steal and get safely to his next base.

Furthermore, Naylor continued to be a good bat in a lineup that included Cal Raleigh who hit 60 home runs and Eugenio Suarez who rounded out the top five of 2025 MLB Home Run leaders with 49 home runs. Josh batted 20HR, 92RBIs with .815 OPS. Now Josh Naylor has hit .275/.336/.464 with a 124 OPS+ in four full seasons, averaging 25 homers and 105 RBIs per 150 games. Easy to see why the Mariners wanted to lock him down.
So then, for emphasis Seattle and Naylor are in agreement for a five-year contract for him to return to Seattle. He is all locked in for half a decade. The deal, which the club is thrilled about had been pending a physical. Josh Naylor as expected took his physical (Monday), at which point his five-year deal with the Mariners finally became official.
