Saquon Barkley Getting Well-Deserved Extension From The Eagles
His 2024 season was one for the ages. He came close to breaking the record for rushing yards in a season had he been permitted to play in the last game. At times it seemed like he was unstoppable, making cuts and runs that boggled the mind. In Super Bowl LIX it was obvious that the Kansas City Chiefs’ main goal was to stop him above all else. So with all that positive production it’s good to see that Saquon Barkley is getting a well-deserved extension from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman called it “the best season for any skill position player in NFL history.” ESPN Insider Adam Schefter provided more details about the extension:
“Eagles are rewarding Saquon Barkley with a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, per sources. The deal makes Barkley the NFL’s first $20 million+ per-year running back. Barkley also has the ability to earn an additional $15 million in incentives and escalators. The deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing. The Eagles are taking the rare step of extending Barkley one year into his three-year deal – and in the same league year in which they signed him to the initial contract.”
Schefter went on to list some of the things Barkley accomplished in less than a year:
- Signed with the Eagles in free agency, securing the long-term deal he had been waiting for.
- Rushed for over 2,000 yards.
- Won Offensive Player of the Year.
- Won a Super Bowl title.
- lands a new extension making him the highest-paid RB in NFL history.
Yes, after being let go by the New York Giants, Barkley proved that may have been one of the biggest mistakes ever made by that organization.

Head coach Nick Sirianni had nothing but high praise for his running back. “It’s very obvious when you watch the tape how good of a player he is, right. But the things that he has that he brings to our football team as far as his leadership, his work ethic. He’s an awesome teammate. Those are the things that make him very special.”
Barkley has come to mean a lot to the guys in the locker room with his selflessness and his leadership. He represents what it means to be an Eagle. Agreeing to this extension will keep Barkley with the organization for years to come as he continues to be a core part of the locker room.
Congrats to Barkley for getting an extension in a place where he is happy to be. After seeing him do a reverse hurdle mid-air last season, I can hardly wait to see what he does next!
