Saquon Barkley And Josh Jacobs Have New Homes
Two NFL star running backs have garnered deals with new teams. Running backs Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs will both have new homes for the 2024 season. Barkley was with the New York Giants for six years and has reached an agreement with division rival Philadelphia Eagles. It’s a three-year $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75 million. Included is $26 million fully guaranteed at signing.
After trying for over a year the Giants couldn’t get a deal done. Now Barkley will add his talents to what could be an explosive Eagles offense. They have QB Jalen Hurts, WR’s A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and TE Dallas Goedert. The Eagles also have an agreement with sack master Bryce Huff which should be a defensive improvement. No doubt their NFC East rivals are taking notes.
Green Bay Packers released star running back Aaron Jones to make room for Josh Jacobs. Jones was with the Packers for seven seasons and was an integral part of their success. Now the 26 year old Jacobs will be replacing the 29 year old veteran. In 2022, Jacobs was the third Raiders to lead the league in rushing since Marcus Allen did it in 1985. Jacobs also has 197 career receptions but has not caught a touchdown pass yet.
Jacobs and the Packers have reached a four-year, $48 million deal which includes $12.5 million guaranteed. Although Jacobs will be RB1, Jones could return to the Packers if he doesn’t get any offers on the free agent market. Likely, QB Jordan Love is hopeful that will be case as Jones provided stability to the offense.

In other free agency news, the Tennessee Titans reached a three-year, $24 million deal with Tony Pollard. Signing the former Cowboys running back likely signals the end of the Derrick Henry era with the Titans. The 30 year old veteran racked up 9,502 rushing yards just behind former Titans legend Eddie George with 10,009. At this point, what Henry’s fate will be is unknown.
Jacoby Brissett has agreed to a 1-year deal with the New England Patriots. So it’s back to Boston for Brissett where he started his NFL career. The contract is for $8 million and could go up to $12 million with incentives. Brissett has been a starter and a backup.
The Patriots need a franchise quarterback as the Mac Jones experiment did not work out. Therefore it’s reasonable to think that’s the position for which their number 3 pick in the draft will be used. Brissett can capably fill the mentor/backup role.
