San Francisco Giants Officially Welcome Luis Arraez After Agreeing to One-Year Contract
The Giants got themselves a good one. Arraez is often compared to the late Tony Gwynn due to the rarity of him striking out and his ability to get on base; making him a talent any team would want to have in their lineup arsenal. But it was the Giants that was able to lure him away from other offers and land him. On Tuesday the San Francisco Giants officially welcomed Luis Arraez after agreeing to a one-year contract. The organization took to social media to announce the deal saying, “Coming soon to San Francisco: three-time batting champion and two-time Silver Slugger, Luis Arráez. Welcome to the Bay, La Regadera!”
As one can see, San Francisco is thrilled to add Arraez to the Giants roster and family. Jeff Young who is busy covering the Giants spring training provided a brief update mentioning, “The San Francisco Giants announced the Luis Arráez signing. To make room for him, Randy Rodríguez was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The 40-man roster remains full. Arráez was a Heart & Hustle recipient for his team in three of the past four seasons.”
Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area also reported on the Arraez deal during his trip to Arizona. Pavlovic adds,
“Hello from Scottsdale. The Luis Arraez deal is official. Randy Rodriguez (Tommy John) was put on 60-day IL to open a roster spot.
Luis Arraez said he had multi-year offers, but chose the Giants because they’ll have him at 2B. He also spoke to Gregor Blanco, who gave a glowing review of SF. He’ll wear No. 1 as a Giant. Asked about his hitting approach, he smiled: “I hate strikeouts.”

Yes, it is his lack of strikeouts that really make Luis such a team asset. Furthermore, not too long ago he made MLB history due to his elite batting. Luis Arráez won the batting title in 2022 (American League with the Twins), 2023 (National League with the Marlins), and again in 2024 (National League with the Padres). Thus, becoming the first player in MLB history to win three consecutive batting titles with three different teams.
And now the Giants hope that Arraez will continue his Jedi batting ways. As the organization prepares and aims to make the playoffs. Therefore, be sure not to miss any baseball action this year. The 2026 championship season will begin on Wednesday, March 25, with a standalone Opening Night matchup between the Giants and Yankees at Oracle Park in San Francisco, followed by a 14-game Opening Day slate on Thursday, March 26 — the earliest scheduled traditional Opening Day in MLB history.
