As the 49ers’ roster continues to get healthy they are also taking steps to solidify their team. They have made moves to shore up their defense particularly when it comes to the cornerback position. ESPN Reporter Jeremy Fowler reported that the San Francisco 49ers have extended CB Deommodore Lenoir. He posted on his social media account:

“Deommodore Lenoir and the 49ers had discussed a new deal since the spring. The team values his versatility, and our Matt Bowen listed him as a top-25 free agent in 2025 before this deal.”

Fowler also provided additional details of the extension, mainly of the overall amount of pay expected. And he quickly got into the length of the contract. He states: The San Francisco 49ers and CB Deommodore Lenoir have reached a five-year; $92-million extension, sources [have confirmed to me].”
Lenoir was in the final season of his rookie contract with a base salary of $3.11 million. Now with the extension he will make an average annual salary of $18.4 million. Which ranks him as the 12th highest paid cornerback in the league.
The 49ers drafted Lenoir in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He only started in two games in his rookie year but but played in 13 games. Since 2022 he has started in 39 of a possible 43 games. Last season was his best one yet with 84 tackles; 10 pass breakups and three interceptions in 2023.
The 25-year old also posted eight tackles and a forced fumble in the 49ers’ Super Bowl LVIII loss. Now he is an integral part of the 49ers 12th ranked defense. So far this season, Lenoir has posted 53 tackles; six pass breakups two interceptions and one forced fumble in nine starts.

But Lenoir isn’t the only cornerback the 49ers have given some attention. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that they signed cornerback Nick McCloud to their practice squad on Monday afternoon. Is this good?
Well, over the course of his four-year career, McCloud has appeared in 40 games (16 starts); with the Cincinnati Bengals (2021). Also with the New York Giants (2022-24). Where he registered 74 tackles, 10 passes defensed, three forced fumbles; three fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks and one interception.
Shanahan shared what the seasoned cornerback brings to San Francisco’s secondary; “We’re getting another guy in here for depth… helps out a lot.” So with all of this movement, it looks like the 49ers are in good shape when it comes to their secondary.
