San Francisco 49ers Dominated the Seattle Seahawks
This was a pivotal divisional match up in the NFC West. And the San Francisco 49ers dominated the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. With the win the 49ers have a two game lead and the tiebreaker over the Seahawks. In other words this loss for the Seahawks could impact their playoff chances. Of course nothing is decided on that yet but it’s something to keep in mind.
It was a rough first half for the Seahawks. They scored a field goal on their opening drive. But things declined after that. QB Geno Smith had an arm injury last week and it was still a factor this week. He had therapists and other personnel working on his arm before the game.
So he wasn’t able to practice with his receivers this week and it showed. They were not on the same page. Seattle’s offense had about 56 yards by the end of the half. Thus the score was 24-3 at the end of the second quarter.
As for the 49ers, their offense and defense were working just as they should. Brock Purdy and the offense operated efficiently moving down the field easily. Nick Bosa and the 49ers defense sacked Geno Smith six times and kept Seattle’s run game in check.
It wasn’t all bad for Seattle, they had some good moments. Geno connected on a few good passes with his receivers. And their defense intercepted Brock Purdy and returned it for a touchdown. If Geno Smith can get his arm injury in check Seattle should be able to bounce back. But in the NFL injuries can be devastating and we’ll have to see how things go.

So it was a jam packed day of football. And it was a nice touch that all the networks paid tribute to John Madden. He not only was a great football coach and commentator. But he introduced football fans to the famous turducken. I still miss the days when Madden abused the telestrator. As he diagrammed a play the screen filled up with all his yellow lines. It was great.
NBC did a touching story on the connection between the Stingleys and Maddens. Darryl Stingley was a former Patriots player who was paralyzed during a game against the Raiders. Madden visited Darryl in the hospital and a long lasting friendship was born. Stingley’s grandson Derek Stingley, Jr. currently plays for the Houston Texans.
