San Francisco 49er’s Deebo Samuel To Miss Time Due To Injury

Another blow has been dealt to the Bay Area. Christian McCaffrey is already out of action. Now the news has come out that the San Francisco 49er’s Deebo Samuel Sr. is to miss some time due to injury. He suffered a calf strain that, per head coach Kyle Shanahan, is expected to sideline him for “a couple weeks.” That’s a shame because Samuel Sr. was catching just about everything thrown his way this past Sunday. The injury happened late in the fourth quarter of the game in which he caught eight passes for 110 yards.

The coach provided more details about when the injury occurred:

“He (Samuel Sr.) told me he thinks he did it when he caught the third-to-last play,” Shanahan said. “They (Vikings defense) had a blitz down in the red zone. He caught the hot route breaking in. He says he thinks he did it on that play. I think there were only like two or three plays after that play though.”

And when asked to comment on Samuel Sr.’s performance he had this to say:

“I thought he had some real good catches,” Shanahan said. “That team plays more zone than anybody that we’ve gone against in probably the last eight years… So, that’s kind of what you’re expecting with it. Brock Purdy had a number of good throws layering it over some backers, and Deebo had to kind of climb the ladder a couple times and made a couple impressive catches.

“I thought he played one of his better games versus the Jets. I don’t know if I’d say one of his better ones compared to others, but I thought he played real well.”

Samuel Sr. is likely to miss the Week 3 divisional matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. As well as the Week 4 home game against the New England Patriots. As was mentioned earlier, the 49ers are already without Christian McCaffrey. He’s on injured reserve due to calf tightness and Achilles tendinitis and will miss at least four weeks. He didn’t play in the first two games of the season and he’ll have to miss at least three more games.
Although they are missing two of their primary weapons, they can still lean on Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Chris Conley, and Jacob Cowing. But as Shanahan said, “When you lose real good players, it’s always tough,” Shanahan said. “But it happens all over the league, and it’s a huge part of this league and a huge part of this game. We’ve got to deal with it.”
