San Francisco 49ers And Quarterback Brock Purdy Agreed On New Contract

San Francisco 49ers And Quarterback Brock Purdy Agreed On New Contract

He was taken with the last pick (Mr. Irrelevant) in the 2022 NFL Draft. At that lowly position, he signed a four-year contract worth $3.74 million. But the low salary didn’t prevent him from making a splash in the league in his first three years. He was behind Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance who took the starting job from Garoppolo. Fast-forward to 2025 and it’s Purdy who emerged as the 49ers quarterback. Now after several months the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy have agreed on a new contract.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero provided the details of the extension:

“The #49ers and QB Brock Purdy agreed to terms on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, his agent Kyle Strongin of @RangeSports tells The Insiders. Purdy gets $181M in total guarantees, including $165.05M in the first three new years of a deal that runs through 2030.

Brock Purdy showed up for offseason workouts as negotiations continued between the #49ers and his agent Kyle Strongin of @RangeSportsRMP. Now, with over two months until training camp, Purdy has his massive extension and San Francisco has its franchise QB locked up through 2030.”

That’s quite a far cry from his rookie contract. And it now puts him in the highest-paid quarterback conversation. He’s tied for seventh place with Jared Goff with his $53 million annual average. As noted by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, here’s the list of the quarterbacks that did indeed secure their bags:

  • Dak Prescott: $60M
  • Joe Burrow: $55M
  • Josh Allen: $55M
  • Jordan Love: $55M
  • Trevor Lawrence: $55M
  • Tua Tagovailoa: $53.1M
  • Brock Purdy: $53M
  • Jared Goff: $53M

Schefter also pointed out that the 49ers went through lots of changes to get this deal finalized saying:

“49ers underwent major changes this offseason, moving on from several key players, all with the understanding that they’d soon be paying Brock Purdy a massive contract after having the best bargain in football the past three years.”

Purdy has been highly productive over the course of his three seasons in the league. He helped the 49ers get back to the Super Bowl after being absent since 2019. And he has played in 40 games with 36 starts, earning a 23-13 record, 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. In his first full season (2023), he earned a Pro Bowl selection. While throwing for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns and leading the NFL in touchdown percentage (7.0), yards per attempt (9.6) and passer rating (113.0).

Last season the 49ers were ravaged by injuries and then saw the loss of players like WR Deebo Samuel and RB Jordan Mason. However, they still has RB Christian McCaffrey and TE George Kittle. And now that his contract has been taken care of the 49ers can confidently look forward with Purdy at the helm.
