San Diego Padres Punch Ticket to 2025 Postseason!

What a season. And what a game to win against the Brewers. After 11 innings of baseball on Monday night the San Diego Padres punched their ticket to the 2025 postseason! SD is returning to the playoffs for the 4th time in 6 years.

The Friar Faithful had to survive quite the nail biter, but the additional stress and raised blood pressure was worth it as they excitedly watched the brown and gold clinch a playoff spot. No backing in, just a hard fought big “W.” Nevertheless, Milwaukee did not make things easy at all for Manny and company. The Brewers took a 3-1 lead before the Padres eventually tied it up very late in the game.

Yet, the Brewers would keep the battle going right on into extra innings. Once again taking a lead, going up 4-3. Could the Padres pull off a walkoff and enjoy a much deserved champagne and beer shower?

YES! In the end San Diego would emerge victorious thanks to their catcher, Freddy Fermin. And Fermin and the Padres of course won in dramatic and historic fashion (which seems to be becoming a theme, last year SD clinched on a triple play). Nonetheless, Freddy Fermin smoked a walk-off single in the 11th which secured a return trip to the playoffs for San Diego. This is the first time the Padres have reached the postseason in consecutive years since 2005-06. And it is the first playoffs clinch via walk-off in franchise history.

But truth be told, the Padres have been adding to baseball’s and their organization’s legacy all season. They began the year with quite a bang. They started off the season 5-0, for the very first time in franchise history. Plus, they were one of the last two undefeated teams still standing at the beginning of season, along with their rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers. And they were the first team in baseball this year to get to 10 wins.

Furthermore, some other cool Padres history from this 2025 season:

One other thing that comes to mind, shows the tenacity that the Padres have had to win. Especially, despite numerous injuries and setbacks. Several months ago and before trading Stephen Kolek; the team faced the Colorado Rockies. In this particular matchup, Kolek became the first starting pitcher since Mark Buehrle in 2006 to allow six runs in the first inning and earn a win. He is also the first pitcher since Bartolo Colon in 1999 to earn all six of those runs and earn a win.

Sounds scary, but a win is a win. But there isn’t anything scarier than 24 scoreless innings during the playoffs last year. Therefore, seeing San Diego fight back after being down this season shows that this isn’t the same team. They’re not giving up. They’re not going away. And that’s exactly the attitude and spirit you want heading into the playoffs. Therefore, congratulations San Diego and can’t wait to see what happens in October!
